Re: My first piece since joining this forum.

I liked this, lots of fun esoteric sounds and I like some of the harmonies that you put together. What percussion samples did you use? My only suggestion would be to use a little bit of reverb on everything to glue it all together (no bias at all )

I'm very sad to read this, @sadko4u. I can't imagine how you feel. Like the other responses here, I hope that you get through this well.

Now I want to develop a plugin that has a single button "make me happy" that adjusts EQ so that your music matches the frequency response of a Simon and Garfunkel album.

Whoa, that's super weird! I've used two other Focusrite devices (2i4 and 18i20) and I didn't ever experience anything like that. I'm glad you figured it out!

Keep moving forward! I really like reading about what you're doing. You're learning something new and unfamiliar, and not letting the difficulty stop you. :)

Re: Getting a big deep kick drum sound

With only a spectrogram and an EQ, you can do what DrumFixed does.

Re: From the dusty archives of Folderol Towers

This is great fun. I love reading about the great effort you put into revivifying a musical project from nearly three decades ago. I wonder if I could find any of my midi files from the nineties, maybe I should try.

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

Found a playlist including Glenn Miller - In The Mood. ... I better focus on the songs suggested in this topic. If you want more suggestions: Tuxedo Junction - This is another Glenn Miller piece, in my opinion the most dapper big band jazz arrangement I've ever heard. You can watch some of the play...

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

Although I like some hip hop and house, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple are a different (much higher) music level to me. Modern songwriting advice: Vocals need to happen within 4 seconds or people will get bored and listen to something else. Pink Floyd's album Wish You Were Here: 8 minutes and 42 second...

Good time today, nice turn out. We even got a definitive answer from Rob van den Berg (@rghvdberg) as to what jazz is.

@Gps if you want to try making a jazz piece, regardless of how you define it, I'm willing to contribute on clarinet and/or saxophone.

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

"If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know." - Louis Armstrong I now have a much better understanding of that quote. If you ask what jazz is, you'll get a bunch of conflicting responses from people with different definitions, and you still won't know. This whole thread has been a...

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

I found this old instructional Video with the legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass 34:10 : "Easy things. Never play anything that's hard. If it's hard don't play it! The object of ... making music I think is to be able to have motion and freedom and play ... what you feel and have some kind of fl...

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

"If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know." - Louis Armstrong

Edit: Actually that's not entirely fair. I would say that if you can find some decent jazz musicians to play with, and just start practicing together, you can come to know even though you started with the question.
