Re: transition everything to Discourse

Could you share more details about what changed your opinion? (i was on the fence before, i'm 80% for it now.) mostly because falktx posted several months ago in #lad [at least] about their graphing of mailing list and IRC postings whilst stating a concern about these metrics pointing toward an app...

Re: Stereo dictaphone/cheaper digital audio recorder?

I got a bit more money in than expected, and, with my usage plans have embiggened, I think I'll be getting a Zoom H6 + XLR & shotgun capsules. Thanks again for the reflections.

do you have python-xdg installed?

edit: whoopy, ignore that, that's for python3

python2-xdg is for python2

(hmm, neither laditools nor laditools-git has that dependency, but it's possibly such a common module that no-one has noticed so far..?)

Re: Stereo dictaphone/cheaper digital audio recorder?

Hmm.. multiple inputs/tracks, or a model with both omnidirectional and directional mics, would be very handy for recording groups of people. Also, I'd never considered a portable recording device as a USB interface, though now that you mention it, that's pretty neat, two birds with one device.. The ...

Re: Stereo dictaphone/cheaper digital audio recorder?

I can't understand why you need any help with this when your requirements/expectations are admittedly low. I could go by Amazon stars/reviews, but I wanted to ask here in case anyone has a "ooh, you should check out the XY, it's basic but really not bad". My expectation is not /so/ low th...

Re: transition everything to Discourse

After watching this talk at Edinburgh Techmeetup last night, my opinion is now weighted toward a transition to Discourse. In an attempt at revitalising the conversation here, might anyone have any actual specific concerns against Discourse, rather than vague notions or things that could be fixed wit...

Stereo dictaphone/cheaper digital audio recorder?

I'm looking to purchase a cheaper (sub £100) stereo dictaphone/digital audio recorder. Mostly for recording oral histories, though maybe for some very basic field recording at points. I understand at that price bracket the quality won't excel, but it would be nice to have something that doesn't easi...

Re: A program like iMaschine or the Beatbuddy pedal for linux?

check https://github.com/ahlstromcj/sequencer64 for the successor to seq24 the manual is also rather good; "Holding the ”queue” key and then hitting a pattern hot-key will queue an on/off toggle for a pattern when the end of the loop is reached. This is the ”queue” functionality. This means tha...

Query about the LV2 plugin format

Breaking this out from the other thread as TBH it's OT there. It's shocking how something as basic/fundamental as data storage/organization is so horrendously ill-conceived and unwieldy. But then, he did make the absurd choice of turtle for a storage format, so there's no limit to how bad it can get...

no idea on how good most of them are, but the list might help those who wish to find out.

the vast majority are free and or open source. anything (very much preferably free and or open) missed out?

I would recommend RaySession, a drop-in replacement for NSM that appears to be rather more stable.
