Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Now there's no audio sound neither.. from any program. Pulseaudio is running, and everything looks okay. Strange...

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Oh, that one. Thanks, I didn't see the spot. Now I've turned it on, but there's still no sound.
I've checked all the other things too, except that I still don't know what's mean by "the correct slot in CALF fluidsynth".

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Yes, that one is activated. I guess it's the same as bluebell called the Monitor button.
Cheers

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Do you have some MIDI clips on that track or dou you want to play the instrument with your keyboard? Do you use fluidsynth or linuxsampler? I have a MIDI clip on the track, and I use fluidsynth. - Press the Monitor button on the track (e.g. in the mixer window) Done. - Set the track's midi channel ...

No MIDI output with Qtractor
Hi,
In "Connections" I've connected Qtractor and my soundcard, and in "Track properties" I've chosen a plugin synth and a soundfont, and then this synth as instrument, but still there's no MIDI sound. Any explanation? The audio part is playing ok.

Re: MIDI with Ardour
No, it's not. It has two composition modes, the track arranger and the clip mode. Either can be used with or without looping and autostretching. The two modes are complementary, you can easily switch and share material between them. Oh, thanks for telling. Very nice, then I will try their demo. Ren...

Re: MIDI with Ardour
Thanks for suggesting, but from what I see Bitwig is totally loop-based, like Fruity Loops and LMM, which is not what I'm looking for. But probably good program. I also tried the Renoise demo, but don't think I could ever get used to it. The tracks are horizontal and placed in a tiny box in the midd...

Re: MIDI with Ardour
I figured out that you can feed multiple midi tracks (up to 16) which do not have any instrument into a single midi track containing Calf Fluidsynth. In Calf fluidsynth load a sound font and select up to 16 different instruments on the 16 midi channels. On the Calf Fluidsynth track click the "...

Re: General MIDI synth
I've installed libfluidsynth-dev and build-essential, but I don't know what "run make" means.. At the Ardour chat someone said that with the software synth "Timidity++" it's possible to have one plugin instance for a whole midi file. So I installed it, but according to this page ...

Re: General MIDI synth
FYI if you want to split the FluidGM file note that I already did that in the FluidPlug repository. You can download the splitted files from here: http://download.linuxaudio.org/musical-instrument-libraries/sf2/fluidr3-splitted/ Thank you. Btw, I've downloaded the Fluid-Plug zip file and unpacked i...

Re: General MIDI synth
Thanks varpa, I will try an SF2 editor. The FluidR3_GM sf2 is 148 MB, so yes, that probably causes the memory problem. But of course, having to edit SF2s all the time will still be tiresome, so as Pablo says, if there was a way to have just one fluidsynth plugin instance for one midi file, that woul...

Re: General MIDI synth
Thank you both, and sorry for my late reply. Do you mean in ardour, right? So the soundfont player is Calf fluidsynth plugin, I assume. Yes, both right. A quicker way: In the mixer window (alt-M) delete the plugins in the midi tracks (except "fader") but leave one Calf fluidsynth plugin in...

Re: General MIDI synth
Pablo, thanks for your clarifications about GM players, that helped a lot. I followed your steps: tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ cd /usr/share/sounds/sf2 tl@tl-P5Q-SE /usr/share/sounds/sf2 $ ls FluidR3_GM.sf2 FluidR3_GS.sf2 tl@tl-P5Q-SE /usr/share/sounds/sf2 $ cp /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2 ~/ tl@tl-P5Q-...

Re: General MIDI synth
Did you double-check? /usr/share has a lot of subdirectories, you might have missed it. Yes, there's no subdirectory called "sound" in /usr/share/, but with $ dpkg-query -L fluid-soundfont-gm I get this: tl@tl-P5Q-SE ~ $ dpkg-query -L fluid-soundfont-gm /. /usr /usr/share /usr/share/sound...

Re: General MIDI synth
Thank for your suggestions. What i am trying is to import a MIDI file and play it with its own instrument setting, so I don't have to set the soundfont and instrument manually for each track. i already have Calf Fluidsynth, but got the impression that it wasn't a GM synth because I have to set each ...
