Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

I also get operation not permitted: chown mevla.mevla /mnt/disk/ chown: changing ownership of '/mnt/disk/': Operation not permitted This is because I did the command as a regular user. It has to be done as root. "mountpoint is not empty" That's because it was already used. It has to be do...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

Make the mount point belonging to user <name>. For user joe, a mount point of /mnt/disk and an external USB drive of /dev/sde1 : (as root) chown joe.joe /mnt/disk Then mount the drive still as root: mount /dev/sde1 Then open another console and as regular user: cd /mnt/disk touch test If the empty ...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

This said I have no idea of 'lucky backup' (sounds like a lottery :) ) and use rsync in a script file to do backups after mounting the external USB as root. The script executes as a normal user since of course the external USB drive is owned by the user. It would be a folly to make a backup drive o...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

I'm not sure what you mean by 'take'. If you can write a file then all would seem to be well. Take ownership I meant. My backup program has been stalling and returning errors about permissions ever since this issue appeared. I cannot do any backups right now because of this. I've checked the drive ...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

Damn it. Spoke too soon! I forgot about trying to take ownership of the drives again. I tried via GUI and terminal methods once more but still got "Operation not permitted" :( So, my drives are mounted with RW access now. I can create new folders and files in them so I assume so anyway. Bu...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

mount -l Cheers. Although I did try that just now and got another permission denied (or similar) message. However, I found a command from here which I've modified for my system: https://askubuntu.com/questions/333287/external-hard-disk-read-only Actually looks like it might be working and my backup...

I tried that just now but it's the same results.

I suspect Photorec may have made the drives Read Only the other day. Any idea how I would check and change that?

Re: There's a lack of Qtractor video tutorials..

I think that the series of Qtractor video's from 2017 by Demonic Sweaters on Youtube are very good. Link . I don't know if he covers the piano roll good enough for you. Good luck with Qtractor: it's a really great program! :) Yeh I've already tried watching those ones. I didn't find them too good t...

Re: Can't take ownership of HDD's as root

Ok. So I just tried: sudo chown myusername:myusername mountpoint I obviously used my actual username and mountpoint for the drive when I did that. The result was: chown: changing ownership of 'mountpoint': Operation not permitted This is what happened before. Is there another command I can try? Chee...

I believe so. But to be honest, I forgot the exact command I used which is why I didn't mention it in my opening post. I'm actually just looking up some commands for this now so I can try again. I will post back with results. Thanks

Can't take ownership of exFAT HDD's

I recently seem to have lost ownership of my external, exFAT formatted USB HDD's. Root owns them now. I recently ran Photorec to look for some deleted files and noticed this issue after that. But I also downgraded my kernel too so I'm not sure if it's that which has caused it. Anyway, Im using Linux...

Re: There's a lack of Qtractor video tutorials..

I did notice that shortcuts section yesterday. Maybe I can just add my own shortcut there. Not sure.. I'll try and just learn the program first I suppose, then worry about these things later :P Cheers.

Re: There's a lack of Qtractor video tutorials..

Ok. I will keep that in mind! Do you know if there's a keyboard shortcut to toggle that on and off? I'm just reading through the user guide, btw. I'm going to give this program a good shot as I really want to ditch using Wine for music stuff and Qtractor has been one of the most appealing programs o...
