'Helm' is another that seems to be popular.

Re: Lowpass filters cutting off 20khz-48khz?

Sorry, I haven't read all the other replies here so don't know what's been said. But here's a tip on this.. Humans can generally only hear from about 20hz-20khz (And that's in a very good scenario. Most of us can't even hear that whole range. The top end starts to disappear more and more as we leave...

Re: Free VST synths?

I don't know a lot about native Linux synths but I do know that people seem to like ZynAddSubFX. I'm not sure what kinda 'free' you mean, but that one doesn't require payment I think. It's probably open source n all that too..

As for effects, Calf seem to be the go to ones.

Re: Spicing up existing vocals

Sorry, I've got to agree it is hard to understand what it is you're looking for. There are some terms used in music that're quite clear by this point as they've been used to describe the same thing so much over the years (Warm, Fat, Punchy etc..). But 'spicing up' feels much more subjective to me an...

Re: Qtractor - Metronome 'Pre-count'?

sorry, there is no pre-count in qtractor. as a workaround, you may set a punch-in/out range and the starting play-head before of that; though, the metronome will always click while playback/recording is rolling. cheers Ok. I'll have a little play with that then. It was on my list of things to learn...

Qtractor - Metronome 'Pre-count'?

Hey. Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to get the Qtractor audio metronome to count in before recording starts? It just starts recording as soon as you press play, but I need it to give me a bit of a count in before it starts rolling. Cheers!

Re: Spicing up existing vocals

If you want more dynamics then yes, a transient shaper can do that. You can also use a type of compression called 'expansion'. Some compressors have an expansion mode built into them. Otherwise, you can use a standalone 'expander' plugin. And just as an interesting side note, it's also possible to i...

Re: Open source Gross Beat alternative

I've been wanting a Gross Beat clone for a very good while now. I'm a fan of that plugin. I *think* I could hack together a Gross Beat alternative real quick. It would use Wolf Shaper's graph, which is based on the ones in FL Studio. I'll keep you informed. Yeh that sounds cool! I use Grossbeat som...

Re: There's a lack of Qtractor video tutorials..

as a matter of fact it was today that the plot took a slight turn: starting from today's qtractor >= 0.9.5.22git. 391cfe that plugin latency/delay compensation is an option for tracks. enjoy! Ah god that's great news! I'm so happy to see the beginnings of this now :) I'm feeling drawn back to Qtrac...

Re: The best Linux DAW's in 2019?

:) Consider that a poll on this thread (and/or reading through what others like/dislike) won't help you make your decision, or at least it shouldn't. You know what you like and dislike about these DAWs already. Pick the one that works best for you (or more than one). If you want help with a DAW to ...

Re: Your favourite Linux DAW's in 2019?

Why should it? It applies to any daw that doesn't claim to colour the sound by default. It's quite a controversial subject, or used to be in some circles. I think what you're referring to is called 'The null test'. The idea is that if two files are supposedly identical, you should be able to play t...

Re: Your favourite Linux DAW's in 2019?

*** Just to let everyone know, I added Muse to the poll and it seems to have reset everyone's votes. Sorry about that! I didn't realise that would happen. Please vote again! *** Well then, why put Ardour and Mixbus together ? Many differences between them. One is Open Source the other one comes fro...

Re: Your favourite Linux DAW's in 2019?

This is why I use Mixbus32C for mixing: great sound. And Bitwig for creating: great (MIDI/Audio) flexibility for expressing ideas. I haven't tried 32c. Is the sound really much better than the regular version? Poll in KVR 'Which DAW would you choose if all things were equal?' https://www.kvraudio.c...

Re: Your favourite Linux DAW's in 2019?

That's probably a fair conclusion but very much dependent on your needs and how you get on with the way they do midi. I think it's pretty good overall but there are some significant bugs when it comes to looping midi. There are high hopes for ardour 6 to address these problems but apparently it inv...
