Re: simple Midi composer?
Another possibility is Rosegarden.
It supports, piano roll or notation display, and step-wise entry in both of these as well as live recording of MIDI in real time.

Re: how to record electric guitar?
I don't often use guitar but when I do, I record the clean signal while listening to the amp. Like that it is possible to later make invisible edits in the recording. Once complete, pushing this through effects, or back out to the amp/mic combo will mask any small remaining artefacts.

Re: OpenSource non-linux plugins out there?
danboid is right. So you're completely free to do whatever you want with the source code of HighLife. I've just checked the HighLife disclaimer and it's indeed an old style four clause BSD license. But it's only one plugin. Is it worth the hassle? Surely, better to do what the author asks, and make...

Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Not having any luck with this
I had a bit of spare time so downloaded the iso (64bit), only I can't use it. As a live image (on DVD) it asks for a login name and password. If I try the failsafe entry I get the same, and even when trying to install it
This is on a quad core AMD 64 machine.

Nothing here about it, so I thought I'd post a link to the videos. I especially recommend looking at "LAC is dead! Long live miniLAC!" to see just what these guys were up against.

Re: A couple of tunes for Autism awareness month
Very thoughtful compositions.
Actually, after I'd listened through both of them I realised I hadn't noticed anything about the arrangements - and I mean that in a good way. After a second listen I wasn't disappointed.

How was zita-resampler installed?
If via a repo, did you also install the -dev files?
If building yourself, did you actually install it (sudo make install).
Might be silly questions but these things are easy to overlook

Re: Rosegarden vs M-Audio Venom
I got burned by something like this as well. I wanted to read a Yoshi config file that tells where the banks are, do it from a python app. Well my python app kept reading a bunch of binary junk. I'd look at the config file with the text editor(gedit), and it looked like simple text to me! Oh, no, i...

This is quite disturbing. I don't know what's happening to debian, but they do seem to be getting a lot of breakages latelytrulan wrote:Thanks for the report, the ice1712 issue was a result of a config decision on Debian's part.CraigPid wrote:4.4.6-rt13-avl2 works with ice1712. Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Ah! I realise I wasn't clear.
It was a ubuntu machine I was upgrading, not AV Linux.
I'm off to Berlin in the morning for a week (holiday + miniLAC2016), so I'll try and take a look at AVLinux when I get back.

Re: New AV Linux Kernel Repository now public!
Quick question. Does it still carry support for the Audiophile 2496 sound card? I did an upgrade on one of my machines recently and after much puzzlement discovered that the upgrade had removed the driver
