Re: Why people don't like Unity and Ubuntu?

Took one look at unity and hated it. Back on a fairly cut-down debian with Openbox + Rox-Filer for my main computers, and XFCE on my laptop.

You need to drag the end of the segment, not just click. Alternatively from the top level menu:
Composition->Change Composition Start and End

Re: Crazyness i experienced

Most places I either have a link to my website in my sig, of in my forum profile :) I think it would be a good idea if everyone did that, although with all that potential listening I don't know how I'd find time to do anything else  P.S. My website is absolutely minimal, but has no javascript a...

Re: Isao Tomita

"Snowflakes are Dancing" especially "The Old Castle" "Tomita's Planets" set volume to 11 for "Mars" :) P.S. Somewhere on youtube there is a short excerpt of him building his classic whistle sound for "When you wish upon a star" found it :) https://ww...

Isao Tomita

One of the synthesiser pioneers is no longer with us. Someone who was one of my musical heroes, and a great inspiration
R.I.P. Mr Tomita, and I shall raise a glass in your honour.

Re: Audio interface with multiple midi

Ummm. Most MIDI messages are 3 bytes. I can't remember the exact details but it's something like command, channel, value. So that comes out at around 1mS. Therefore, if you use both hands and play a 6 note chord, the minimum time spread between all notes will be something like 6mS.

Re: M-Audio MidiSport 2x2 Problem

I have one of the original 2x2s and have had no problems with various versions of debian up to and including the current testing - with and without {spit} pulse audio.

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure your MIDI cables are OK, and that your hardware is actually sending MIDI data?

Re: Rosegarden and Zyn

Ah yes. I'd forgotten about the fixed/auto channel business. In the latest versions of Rosegarden 'fixed' is the default, but you may need to double-check with older saved projects.

Re: Rosegarden and Zyn

Are you using the default General midi playback device in Rosegarden? If so create a new one. Rosegarden makes some unjustified assumptions and sends a nest of CCs to set GM stuff. Recent versions also send a bunch of CCs at the start of every new segment on a track. I've complained about this on th...

Re: All USB inputs on a laptop are not equal (X-Runs)

Not only do ports share internal hubs, but those hub may be sharing interrupts too. I always try to have usb audio on the least contested ones, and things like mouse, keyboard etc. on something more congested.
Look at:
lsusb
and:
cat /proc/interrupts

Re: simple Midi composer?

Most of what you are asking here is a matter of configuration that is possible with just about all combinations of sequencer and synth. On my setup at home I switch on, and Yoshimi starts up and loads my preferred patch set. Immediately after that Rosegarden loads, and is configured to automatically...
