Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Verbose mode was useless, sorry, I don't have a linux box at hand right now and I need to compare with how it looks on my machine.
But yeah, there could be something here.

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

No external hub, right?
Can you try to connect the RME to another port and run again lsub -v?

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

2 ideas here: Sample rate: 48000 -> I don't think 48k is a good idea except for cards that don't support anything else (things from the past mostly). try either 96K (or 44.100) - don't change anything with the periods or buffers they look quite reasonable. RT Prio: 97 -> don't go higher than 89 Sorr...

48k, 5.33mS
Then I buy it - nice!

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

That cpu is definitely a dual core: http://ark.intel.com/products/85212/Intel-Core-i5-5200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz The dual core vs quad core thingy is due to hyperthreading: 2 physical cores, 4 threads (the OS doesn't have a clue and shows them as 4 cores). Enabled by default on most mac...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

@folderol: that's great but doesn't tell much if you don't give any latency info. You can fill up the ram and cpu of the lamest computer with a ton of things as long as you don't expect low latencies. I know that first hand having played live with Buzz tracker on wine and a BCR2000 for years at arou...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

That's still progress: at least now you know the performance problem is possibly an acceleration issue related to Intel HD Graphics 5500 support in Mint (or even upstream). But before jumping into graphic troubleshooting, you should really try to install one of the light window managers or non accel...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Possibly a HW acceleration issue since this is a relatively new chip (Intel driver, etc..), but the thing is that you shouldn't need it in the first place to run audio apps. That points directly to the fat desktop envs, like cinnamon, gnome & co. (assuming cinnamon here since you're on Mint - please...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Nah, you don't need a desktop to get decent latency (especially with a pro grade sound card like the RME). I haven't seen a desktop racked on a stage for quite a while either - and your previous configuration was working after all. But you also cannot expect to have everything working out of the box...

Re: Renoise 3.1 (beta)

Yeah, that 3.1 has been quite a smooth ride so far - impressive quality for a beta.
The elephant in the room is of course the lack of LV2 support, but otherwise it's all good.

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Just one thing regarding the latency calculation. If you want to use the speed of sound through air when playing an analog instrument as a comparison, then the calculation on the jack side should account for the total round trip latency, not just the playback latency. This can be measured quite prec...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Sorry FalkTX, I assumed wrongly that there was an optimized kernel in the KX repos - never used those actually. In my experience (Arch Linux), RT still has a small edge over non RT (let's ~2-3ms second latency vs ~3-4ms), but it's for sure not as dramatic as it used to be. For the sake of troublesho...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

The kernel is not detected as RT:
Kernel with Real-Time Preemption... not found - not good
Kernel without real-time capabilities found
For real low latencies (in the 2 ms ballpark), I think you still need the RT patchset.
Are you sure you're using the kernel from the KX repo?

Re: Xruns start to increase after ~5-10minutes

I was actually referring to wineasio with jack2 and 64 bit apps, as I remembered seeing some thread where jhernberg (wineasio dev) gave a word of caution. ok, just found it (2nd comment): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wineasio/?comments=all But you're right, I misread - 64 bit should work & tha...
