Re: Why run Windows software on Linux?
Advocating linux should be smart, not fanatic. Best comment I've seen on here (or anywhere else come to that!) :D I don't know what impression I made w/ my post but that's exactly what I'm advocating. The discussion I wanted to start is not one of Linux vs. Windows. I simply wanted to gain an under...

Re: Distro with midi out of the box
This is my first post, i try to ask a thing there because I'am totaly unexperted. I'm looking for a distro that has midi working by default (then included soundfont and synthesizer configuration). If it works even live it would be appreciated, so you can try it too. Simplest way to have midi & ...

Why run Windows software on Linux?
I can absolutely understand that people run the occasional Windows application or VST, even though they use Linux. (I do! :) ) But I see a lot of questions here about pretty expensive DAW's that are Windows native. Why not use (dual boot) Windows then? Because producing music with a full blown (semi...

Re: Distro with midi out of the box
Midi works out of the box in every distro. It's supported by ALSA (Linux's sound driver). One just has to learn how to work w/ one's Midi gear in combination w/ a DAW and/or softsynth etc. Depends very much on what you want to do w/ Midi and what software (DAW) you want to use. Good luck with Linux!...

Re: Sitala drum plugin
Why are these dependencies on such new versions of these libs? Isn't it possible at all to run this VST w/ older versions of those libs?scottwheeler wrote:Sitala has additional library dependencies

Re: Sitala drum plugin
I'm not sure then, perhaps it needs some of the files from the standalone program. I installed with the deb so perhaps try putting the other files in the locations they would have gone. Probably. There are "(drum? )kits" in the .deb in the folder /usr/share/sitala/kits/ . Maby the .so sea...

Re: Jack setup issueswith some software
I setup jack with QjackCTL, this works fine with Bitwig but I have to turn off Jack for any other audio (spotify, browser) to play. I'm not sure if this is a routing problem or something else. Why does anyone still use QjackCTL? Cadence is so much better. Just make sure you have the ALSA bridge run...

I need this forum to ask questions. I need this forum for its archive of knowledge. So I just donated €10 via Paypal to paypal@bzzt.net (see this topic too). Wish I could do that automatically every year so I wont forget. :) I hope that falkFX (from the KXStudio repository and distribution) does no...

Re: Good Linux instruments and plugins sources?
For 150 GBP? No thank you. :( How else is he supposed to recoup the cost of contracting real orchestral players to record high quality samples? In this forum we've repeatedly had people grinding their gears about how doing virtual orchestration on Linux is nothing but an exercise in frustration. Fi...
