Re: Kx as a distrib is over - what next for ubuntu users?

I'm going to try adding the KXStudio repositories, although it looks like it's discouraged. I'll try anyway. Why it's "discouraged"? The KXStudio repository is discouraged to be used onto Ubuntu Studio in particular, to avoid duplicated audio settings, that are tailored for distro specifi...

Re: Are Real-Time Kernels Safe?

In 2014 i wrote a master's paper on "Linux configuration for professional audio". The first chapter of it, was about the "specialized" Linux kernels. So in two words, if your goal is to have a pro-level, musical studio environment, that will be use exclusively for music productio...

Re: ubuntu studio settings - studio controls question

...another thing i'm noticing is that, when i change the cpu governor from the default 'powersave' mode to 'performance' mode, that setting does not persist. anyone have a tip to get that to be remembered on system restarts? Studio Controls was working fine, until i added the ubuntustudio-backports...

Do you have a comparison with others repos?

Re: We need a Linux Music Standard

The amount of hassle getting linux music software working has gotten out of hand. We need to reign in this monster. It needs to be more like MacOs and Windows in its ease of use. The idea is good, but the devil is in details. MacOS and Windows are not one guy. They are massive companies, with money...

Re: How do you hook up Lebiniou visualizer to an audio source?

My secret weapon is pavucontrol (pulseaudio volume control). You can find LeBiniou in the Recording tab. There you should switch to Monitor (of your soundcard). Optionally, you can boost the value up to 150% for better effect. No additional LeBiniou configuration or sound server is needed. PS: The s...

Re: LibraZiK 4 Released

So happy to see the LibraZiK project hanging on. Because it offers arguably the biggest, rock-solid stable, pro-audio oriented repository, including custom Linux kernels. Our community should give it our full support, and not let LibraZiK fade away into oblivion.

Re: GOOD NEWS: Some success with...

I had bought a laptop computer on sale from an office supply store and successfully deleted Windows and formatted the slightly unusual solid state drive. Hopefully ext3 is OK, but I think it is. Actually it isn't! EXT3 does not have a proper SSD support, like lack of "Discard" function et...

The proprietary NVidia driver like to mess up with the RT performance. It doesn't respect user/system custom realtime values.
Same is true for the proprietary WiFi drivers

Re: Recommended order for XRuns Troubleshooting?

The proprietary NVidia drivers, can mess up your realtime priorities.
Also on Debian the stock kernel does not have the PREEMPT option enabled. You should use the Linux-RT or something that has the option.

Re: BSD for music production?

Do not bother using (something, something)BSD for music production. BSD has some straights, and none of them are related to audio. Its a great server, webhost, samba server. It has the superior file system, compared to any alternative. And none of this will be useful for audio production whatsoever....
