Re: issues with new grafics card
Possible, sure. Will it work or be relatively free of frustrations, that is not sure. My personal preference is to start with a new installation because there are less chances of things going wrong with old relics and settings clashing with new ones. A fresh installation is possibly the path of leas...

At the top of your screenshot it tells you, Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. This is quite old.oNNogitaar wrote:how sure are you about that?

Re: issues with new grafics card
That command I gave you only removes nVidia drivers. So if your computer doesn't already have some kind of generic driver for a different videocard you'll need to install it. You'll need to check if the videocard is supported etc. The message you're seeing is that your OS is not supported any longer...

Re: Shuriken Beat Slicer 0.4
Shuriken looks like an awesome utility, thank you very much. Apologies for going off topic but I just wanted to mention regarding the Akai sampler that perhaps a SCSI CF (Compact Flash) card reader is a better solution than messing around with CD and ZIP drives. It is also trivial to dd sample cdrom...

Take a look at autotalent
Not sure if it'll accomplish what you have in mind though.

To get rid of nVidia drivers
Reboot
Code: Select all
apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.oldnvidia
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux
The kernels I mentioned in the test above aren't RT nor patched for RT. One is the default Jessie offering which installed with the OS (3.16) and the other one I compiled. (3.18 PREEMPT 1000 mHz) As for what we are allowed or not allowed to tell newcomers about technical issues, I frankly wish someb...

Re: Best soundcard with 4-5 microphone inputs for Linux DAW
I always figured an internal sound card would record at a higher quality than an external USB device, but I may be wrong. There isn't an audio quality difference depending on what interface one uses but whether a USB interface will provide for troublefree operation is another matter which again dep...

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux
Possibly the most important mod of all is to install a PREEMPT 1000 mHz kernel I don't know if I agree 100%. Does KXstudio ship default with a preempt kernel? I know a lot of people have fine results with stock kernels. I don't know what kernel KXStudio (here I am referring to the distro on install...

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux
OK, also, would it be better if I was running KXStudio?? I installed Ubuntu Studio with only the intention of using it for recording music, and it APPEARS KXStudio is designed for just that. Sorry for the newbie questions, I am exactly that. I am trying to learn through guidance offered here. I’m u...

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux
Ok, I think I am understanding some of this. How about this question. What would the probability of the software that comes with "XXXX" audio interface works under installation under Vine. Is this viable or am I still looking for Bigfoot riding the Loch Ness Monster in french maid outfit?...

Re: Support of audio interfaces under Linux
So... After reading 5 pages of posts... Windows or MAC is the better choice for recording music??? I guess that the best thing for me (Us????) is to use Linux for our every day use, and have a PC/MAC setup for recording music??? Neither. Alesis HD24 or similar is a much better choice for recording ...
