Re: Migration to LInux

Hey Folks, I wouldn't call myself a pro more just an enthusiast. I recently migrated to a linux workstation from mac. It was aging, and I had spare PC parts around and thought - why not. I've been playing a piano on/off (although more off for 30 years). Self taught - started with Moonlight Sonata @...

Re: Newbie: Need recommendation for distro for running Wine/VST

The truth is, wine/reaper have made great progress in the last few years, and the commercial windows audio software that either won't work in them, or won't allow purchased products to be registered, is a minority, whose well-programmed competitors more than make up for. Add on the excellent linvst ...

Re: youtube now having adverts in music videos

I've used youtube-dl command line, and it hasn't yet downloaded any add content.
Some distros have a gui for it. Not the same as an enjoyable uninterupted stream,
but to me, youtube looks to be going full-on subscription in the near future,
adding annoyance after annoyance...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)

A semi-pro reaper license is only $60. If you'll get used to wine-staging, installing some wine over-rides, using the linvst wrapper, and applying linux paths and comon sense to installers, the linux reaper and windows reaper in wine are the best price/compatibility duo you'll get for running window...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?

The whole Spitfire regimen is different from most vst sampler setups. So a little more initial setup time. It does provide a plugin, LABS.dll, if memory serves. It wouldn't scan correctly in my setups, so I'll come back to it in a year. Quite the ambitious project. In the meantime, I got Sektor at a...

Put a distro in your distro, to expand possibilities like vst3

If you feel trapped by an older but well working distro, and you have some 4 gig or more diskspace, try adding a Puppy Linux to your setup. For example, I use vst3i of Sampletank3 and Syntronik in a bootable cd based Puppy linux It's called Bionic64, screen shot and chat here: (edit: the link just b...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?

@luciorgomes: that's what I wanted to post, thanks for taking the trouble for me. "Meneer Jansen" is me by the way. ;) My distro at the moment isn't new enough for the new KXStudio repository. So I can't test Windows-VST3 support in Linux-Carla yet. Put a distro in your distro  :wi...

Re: audio damage

However, what I will be doing shortly is putting up Linux versions of our free plugins, Rough Rider and FuzzPlus. As soon as I get a spare minute I’ll bust those out. Have you considered getting a company forum at KVR? Works for U-he and Bitwig. Might increase your industry exposure, and consolidat...

CFA Sound U-he ACE synth preset banks $10, get 2.4 gig LoopCloud lib free

there are three ACE soundsets 50% off each with 64 sounds, for $10 each. I bought 'CableForce' and it's renewed my enjoyment of U-he ACE. 'CableSphere' makes use of drawable wavetables in ACE, so might be a good choice if that's an area of interest. https://www.pluginboutique.com/search?qs=match&...

Re: Newly optimized Fathom modular $25 thru kvr thru October

There will be a new high end version eventually, some details from the dev just posted yesterday at https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=482501&start=4455 And a cool marketing benefit: "existing users will have the total accumulation of everything they ever spent on Fathom...

Newly optimized Fathom modular $25 thru kvr thru October

The $25 price applies when purchased here: https://www.kvraudio.com/marketplace/fathom Fathom is much faster with lower cpu use in the new v233 release, and more optimizing with AVX instructions is coming in the next release. V233 also adds Tonal FM. Playing the great sounds without spiking the cpu ...

Re: Kontakt player decided to stop working on me...

Below are the over-rides I use. Chosen based on tips, terminal output, google results etc. But now I compare file sizes of what wine provides, compared to msoft originals. If the file size difference is glaring, I'll add the over-ride. As wine improves, the provided dlls may approach the size of the...

Re: Kontakt player decided to stop working on me...

Native Access can fail in rare windows fiascos, too. And when a troublesome version is released, it's SOL for a few customers, because it auto-updates. But I think there is an env variable that can be set to block auto-update. Is your wine ID set as win 8? That might help. Myself, I think there are ...
