Re: Carla + Fedora = no love?

Hi all, I've started playing a bit with VST yesterday, Thanks! I suggest removing all the wine parts you have installed, and installing wine-staging from winehq.org and manually installing a wineasio.dll rpm, and register it to wine with commands wine64 regsvr32 wineasio.dll and (not or) wine regsv...

Re: simple software for digital piano recording

Hi everyone, I'm quite surprised that this forum has been hiding from me for such a long time  . I have a digital Yamaha P-95. I found a workaround how to record the music (Audiocity and headphone line out cable), however, people kept telling me that the quality can't be good (I have no fram...

Re: wineasio-amd64 not listed in Qjackctl

try issuing these two commands as normal user: wine64 regsvr32 wineasio.dll wine regsvr32 wineasio.dll Each will generate a reply in terminal output declaring success or failure. If there is failure, the wineasio.dll may be needed in some other folder under /usr/lib, or folder specifically for 64 bit...

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

⋅ Beginner -- OK ⋅ Noob -- What's that? ⋅ Windows User -- I just want to click Next -> Next -> Next -> Next and end up with random toolbars in my browser. Estimates I have seen show that Linux is on less than 2% of desktops. To have more users Linux has to be approacha...

Re: High-end plug-ins for Linux

Those are gorgeous gui's! I think the ACM's might benefit from being wider, with more empty space between controls. To me, there is too much data displayed in such close procimity, that there is no room to contemplate it without being interrupted by other data directly in view. Hope that makes sense...

Re: What kind of musician am I?

Thanks everybody, great ideas all around. Generally I think the idea is to stop thinking so hard about everything and just create stuff. I don't give myself enough credit for how much music theory I understand and how much creative ability I already have, and so I keep grasping for new things to fi...

Re: What kind of musician am I?

I'm having what you might call a musician's existential crisis. * sigh * I don't expect anybody to have any magic solutions, but I'm wondering if anybody else ever experiences anything like what I'm describing? Maybe we could collaborate on a song about how it feels  I've taken the chainsaw a...

Re: Rosegarden 17.12 couple of probs

I'm a big fan of keeping multiple distros up and running linux audio apps. In your case, having a modern debian based setup would allow you to compare notes and app/lib versions between the two systems, and use the alien command to convert between .rpm and .deb files, when some things found in kx-st...

Re: Puppy Linux does Rosegarden & Qsampler & Audacity & Jack work?

Many Puppy variants, currently, 'bionic' ubuntu repo is used by some puppy based releases. Puppy has it's own package manager, which has search functions, so what can be found in those default repos should be avaialble. The package manager will display if any libs or dependencies are unavailable. Te...

Re: Help understanding open/universal standards

The biggest issue facing Linux is mostly a software issue IMO. WIth OSS, ALSA, JACK and Pulseaudio it makes it infinitely more confusing to running applications there isn't a standard backend. Some applications use jack, others pulse audio, other you can do fine just working directly with ALSA. If ...

Re: Won't search VST2 or VST3 paths

I am running Carla un der Ubuntu 19.04 and have enabled experimental support. I tried to get it to load a third-party vst3 plugin, but it won't search the vst3 paths specified. I have verified this running Carla under strace. I have also verified permissions It doesn't even seem to try to look for ...

Re: I messed up my WINE

I've seen extremely strange behaviors by win audio apps in their native haunts lately, and I think some Visual C++ Redistributable packages have hit the future's fan, and were brown inside, instead of golden. Companies that rely on them are dancing with a sticky and smelly partner, and the heat of c...

The solution above worked in Mint 18, but not in Arch Manjaro,
both with a wine-staging 4.11

Vintage diffs

dll titles too long to enter in winecfg over-ride text area

The winecfg panel doesn't seem to be sizeable, is the size configurable in a text somewhere? When I reach the last available character when typing in a long .dll title, winecfg just crashes. EDIT: found a solution: in the graphics tab, I boosted the dpi slider to 144, and that allowed for enough tex...

Re: Has anyone tried the hardware iLok USB device with linux?

I haven't. Never owned an iLok. But the reason I'm replying is to say that you don't need one for iZotope plugins. I have a bunch of them and I activate them without an iLok. However, I can't get mine activated on Linux via Wine. I sent some debug info to iZotope and am hoping they figure out how t...
