Do you know lump? He spends most time on macs these days,
but being a guitar picker, and from Germany, as I recall, might be
watching the new releases, and the pedal system.

Re: About LMMS and DSSIs.

Are the default plugins (such as ZynAddSubFX, SFXR, BitInvader, FreeBoy, AudioFileProcessor, etc.) VSTs (like, the ones maintained by Steinberg), or are they DSSIs? In case you are new to linux audio, zynaddsubfx is also a widely used stand-alone synthesizer, available in most repositories, that yo...

Re: Noise / Hiss / Crackle under KXStudio with RME Babyface

command htop live output, or top static display will display what processes are running, then it's pretty easy to figure out what is un-needed. I have something evil lurking on one of my systems, that periodocally triggers polling on dvd drive, so I keep the command to disable that behavior handy. H...

Re: AV Linux 6.0.4 'Diehard' Released!

I didn't mean to imply that AV is slow, simply because of the iso size. I've never heard a negative review of your many releases. I just don't use a wide range of software, as found on multi-gig dvds, and don't like downloading dvd sized images, as it chews up the bandwidth limit. There are several ...

Nice use of gradient in the default setup! Wish there was a CD sized iso.

Re: My KVR 'What stops you switching to Linux' thread

The official nVidia driver also does 2D the 'official way', handy when using a mouse or midi controller to access synth gui controls with precision, while recording/performing. It's not a 'just for gamers' option. Works well for Native Instruments, and IK Multimedia GUI's, and native linux vsts, whi...

Re: Take U-he audio production survey, get $25 coupon

The U-he demos work with reaper/wineasio, and probably some other vst solutions too. The flagship synth, Zebra, works for about 13 minutes, before needing to be reloaded, and also installs Zebralette, an unrestricted light version. Diva introduces some quiet crackling noise occasionally, Not sure ab...

Re: My KVR 'What stops you switching to Linux' thread

Another option is to use the official nVidia 3D drivers, and not worry about RT. You may find that helps in some cases, with busy pro synth GUIs. It would be easy enough to have a few systems to choose from, for special cases. I have three at the moment, one for keys, one for guitar, one for bleedin...

Take U-he audio production survey, get $25 coupon

http://www.u-he.com/cms/ Since they are working on linux ports of their synth collection take their survey about your audio production, and you'll get to get a $25 coupon code in your email box in a couple of weeks. Hope they complete a linux port of one of their fine commercial synths quite soon. Y...

Re: My KVR 'What stops you switching to Linux' thread

A good test of your system would be to use U-he' Diva demo, and it's Magic Flute preset. It would fit well in your song. Another fit would be a great synth string patch from the zynaddsubfx 'un-named' patches collection. There is a link to the sounds at the zyn website, although you have to rummage ...

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla

Try running Doze vst's in something like Savihost or Vsthost with WineASIO. Works for me. Reaper is also said to work, haven't tried it myself. Reaper/wineasio has the best linux windows vst compatability. Probably 90% of 32 bit non-dongled vsts will run in linux-Reaper. There are a few whose insta...

Re: Guitarix to Individual tracks?

It's good luck to always record a dry track as well as processed track(s).
When you nail a killer riff, you will always find new fx knowledge and plugins a year or two later,
and be glad you kept your raw audio, to feed them.

Re: My KVR 'What stops you switching to Linux' thread

Another aspect to consider, is budgeting priority, for the music one hopes to produce. Investing $500 in a 64 bit motherboard, i7 cpu,and 8gig ram, when using a lousy video display, maxed-out hard-disks, barebones midi controller, bottom-of-barrel guitar, or sad sack headphones/monitors, might not b...

Re: My KVR 'What stops you switching to Linux' thread

32 bit works better for me, for music production, regardless of which distro. Stable, and predictable. I would hope that is more a result of having a group of hardwares that coexist nicely, rather than of the quality of any 64 bit releases. There is such a variety of hardware, and relatively few hou...

Re: dssi-vst and Kontakt free player

Reaper output can be routed with qjackctl wherever you like. Wineasio is pretty simple. After installing, run a command as normal user: regsvr32 wineasio.dll It will confirm success. Then, in reaper, or other host device preferences panel, choose wineasio as the asio driver. Reaper vst preferences a...
