Re: Can somebody demystify JACK for me?

Maybe the first thing to determine is whether you really need JACK. Paul Davis (the original developer of JACK and the primary developer of Ardour) now recommends that people use Ardour5 with ALSA instead of JACK, unless there is a specific reason to use JACK. The short story about why you would us...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

There are not a lot of licensing nightmares. And many of those that do exist are because of hardware mismatches, user performance errors, and user configuration follies. I've been pretty lucky on the hardware part, but have slow-danced with the other two a few times too many to have a decent resume'...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

Anybody who wants Windows software to be ported to Linux should just open up their email client, write a big letter describing all the problems encountered when using WINE What problems? Properly coded software, that doesn't include some control-freak-calling-home code to authorize the product, wil...

Re: Spitfire Audio free sample libraries

GNU/Linux is still shockingly underestimated among audio software makers, and many of them still think there are zero pro audio users on this platform, so they clearly don't monitor any Linux forums. Pro devs know how many musicians on a given platform will spend $Hundreds of Dollar$ on a suite of ...

Re: IKM Custom Shop wine regression?

https://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=20841&start=15 post near bottom of page at the link helped with getting SampleTank going, renamed some .dlls provided by wine, and copied over the real windows .dlls alongside them, and listed them as over-rides in the winecfg libraries pan...

Re: Commercial orchestral libraries in linux?

I did an install of SampleTank3 on my new Ubuntu Studio 19..10/wine-staging 4.20 setup where Kontakt 6 is running. The Sampletank gui was not properly loading. I saw in wine terminal output, that libpng12.0 was missing (16.x is in most distros now), so I added the old one in manually. I then remember...

Re: Commercial orchestral libraries in linux?

Login at IK, in the menus Support-->User Area-->My Products there should be a Syntronik Free entry with a serial number, if needed, give that to the Authorization Manager, which you can launch whenever you want to. New sounds can be created from each of the included instruments, I always wanted a Ya...

Re: IKM Custom Shop wine regression?

A lot of the breakages are caused by devs following orders, and delivering account/license managers and products that auto-update, without asking permission of the customer! Keeping backups of the system wine folder, the /home/you/Document folder, and the /home/you/.wine folder can be a safeguard. I...

Re: IKM Custom Shop wine regression?

in google: ldd wine libraries quite a few possibly releated reads. I have a nice app, bought, installed and registered online, but then when you launch the app, it claims it 'can't find any internet connection  My strategerie is to have different .wine folders for the (few) major commercial pr...

Re: Ubuntu Studio 19.10 review

This is a new Ubuntu Studio team, new skills and plans.
And KX Studio repo is getting nicely optimized,

so it's a win win for the musicians.

Re: Ubuntu Studio 19.10 review

Happy to say that Native Access is working in 19.10, the software/account manager from Native Instruments installed easily, despite the flood of scary looking terminal output, and I'm using the registered Kontakt among many others, in the native linux Reaper daw, after using linvstconverttree app to...

Re: Sonivox Orchestral Companion - problems with iLok

How brutal!!!  Combining wit, logic, and reality all in one post? Not a common occurence these days! SNL writers need you ASAP I did have AIR's Hybrid 3 synth registered and running via ilok-software-manager in Mint 18 a while back, but the next day, I installed a second AIR product, and...

Re: Sonivox Orchestral Companion - problems with iLok

Did you create an ilok account? I think this is needed before installing the software manager. The following vid suggests PACE service set ae Automatic (delayed) is by serendipity, a nice services edit vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80JrUmGXNhs Can you make a win 7 in a virtual Machine? the ilo...

Re: Sonivox Orchestral Companion - problems with iLok

Both ilok hardware dongle, and software manager, are complex beasts, critcal to limit piracy for developers who sign on. They interact with a supported OS in many ways, and one would need both serious luck, and engineering skills/logic to get it working in wine, based on what I've read the past few ...

Re: Commercial orchestral libraries in linux?

I don't recall doing anything special, I have a puppy linux with wine 3.15, works OK, and wine-staging 4.20/4.21 also working in Mint and Bodhi. Been using Amplitube for years, then as bargains appeared, sampleTank 2.5, 3, 4SE and 4Max, and Miroslav lite came bundled with a midi controller, in the d...
