Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
I decided to order a new Novation Launchkey 49 as I am worried about running into the problem with the same signal for keys and pads with some other brand/model. Good to know that it isn't the case with the Novation Launchkey 49 (assuming the hardware is basically the the same as the Novation Launch...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
However, get second hand keyboard, at least here in Finland you get them for 50€ from common market place pages. If you don't like it, sell it with same price That sounds like a good idea, but that means I will have to cast my net a bit wider as there are no used Novation Launchkey keyboards availa...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
Yes, and they make sense. Pads sen 'note on - note off' messages, on ch 10, which is commonly used for drums. Others send some ctrl. It seems that the keyboards are setup for commercial programs with presets for those programs. Can you post something about how you setup your LMMS presets to work wi...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
I have Novation Launchkey 61. It has 3 buttons which don't send midi event, all others send something (18 pads, 15 buttons, 9 sliders, 8 turning knobs) With qmidiroute you can shuffle all midi events how you ever want to. Turn controls to notes, or what ever you want. And in case you want to do eve...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
I had a Samson Graphite 49 that I sold some time ago. I am a newbie, but my impression was that it was great kit. There were two problems that I ran into. The first was that the editor software that came with it (the software to change what the keys and pads do) only ran on Windows or OS X. Probably...

Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.
I would like to start using a midi keyboard controler, but know almost nothing about setting up a midi keyboard. Here is my basic setup: 1) Computer with Ubuntu Mate 16.04 installed. 2) All audio bits of Ubuntu Studio audio and audio plugins groups, as well as low latency kernel and a soundfont are ...

Newbie gear advice needed.
I have been trying to collect some basic gear to use for backing / mood tracks to use when I play saxophone. Hopefully at some point I will be able to build on this experience and eventually use it for gigging purposes at some point. The musical point of reference is world music. My latest acquisiti...

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III AWOL on Ubu system.
First, a comment on the guitar. I wasn't satisfied with the Ultra III's pickups (and you may not be either). I replaced them with Seymour Duncan Almico II Pro Humbuckers. On to the system. I was experiencing what seemed to me to be random crashes, so I replaced Ubuntu Studio 14.04 with a vanilla Ubu...

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III AWOL on Ubu system.
Hmmm. OK, I thought that all instruments with a USB connection were MIDI. Setting qjackctl periods/buffer to 3 kicked up a whole bunch of error messages. Here is the output of the commands that you posted: $ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC8...

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III AWOL on Ubu system.
This gets weirder and weirder. My Samson Graphite 49 MIDI keyboard controller works just fine, but my Epiphone Ultra III guitar does not show up. Neither does my Fender Telecoustic, which also has a "plug and play" MIDI connection.

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III AWOL on Ubu system.
I am trying to get my Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III guitar to work with LMMS. My guitar should show up as a MIDI controller as per http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/79218-living-with-an-ultra-iii-in-linux/ . Unfortunately, my Ubuntu Studio 14.04 system does not appear to recognize my guitar: $ ...

Re: Looking for World music effects/sounds for LMMS.
Check if lmms supports fluidsynth soundfont loader, if it does, I'd recommend this ethnic soundfont collection: https://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/e-mu-planet-earth. Also, campbell's panflute, register at the link, to download it, and then others: http://www.sf2midi.com/f1d-campbells-pan-pipes-sf2...

Looking for World music effects/sounds for LMMS.
I am looking for World music effects/sounds that I can use with Lmms. I assume they would be used with ZynAddSubFX? Any suggestions? I am completely new to the subject of MIDI keyboard controllers.
