Ubuntu(Xubuntu in my case, but it doesn't matter that much), it's debian-based, it has native KXstudio repos support etc

Not really related to drums, but I find TAL Sampler is one of the best instruments for recreating 80s-like sound. Not free, neither cheap but costs every cent to my opinion.
