Recomeneded Distro
What is the way to go these days? Back in the day I used to use KXStudio, but that seems to be just repos these days. What would be a good lightweight distro to pair with it? Or is AVLinux a better option? Or even Ubuntu Studio? I really just want something low maintenance that works and has up to d...

Re: Advices on a DSP environement
It's pretty easy to integrate SuperCollider with plugins. Like most things on Linux it really comes down to how you want to do it. The first thing to know is that SuperCollider can create as many Jack audio channels as you want. So this means you can: 1. output all your audio to Aurdour/DAW of choic...

Re: Advices on a DSP environement
SuperCollider is better at real time than CSound (it's baked into the architecture). CSounds main advantage is that it's been around longer, and has a larger user base. So if a synthesis technique exists, CSound will have an opcode for it. SuperCollider may not, though unless you're at the cutting e...

Re: Advices on a DSP environement
Faust and SuperCollider are really different things. SuperCollider is essentially a programming language version of PureData (as is CSound). It's incredibly flexible - I know people who only use it for MIDI sequencing for example. And it's a proper programming language, which means you can shape you...

Cool to see that Arch is being used.
Wonder how much it costs.

Re: Is Ardour 4 fit to use?
I've not used, but early reports on both the new release, and the betas that preceded it, are that it is very stable.
I'm waiting for it to show up on Arch. I never really got on with 3, but they seem to have fixed all the annoyances.

Re: Midi help
I've had no problems with an internal intel sound card on my hacked chromebook. I suspect the problem is pulse audio. Install either KXStudio, or AVLinux. They take care of midi/audio for you (I prefer KXStudio). If you want to keep Mint for other things, that's fine, you can install KXStudio on the...

I got one of the aur's to compile by removing a dependency on the build package (it was unnecessary). I think it was ladish-git-fixed (ironically).

Re: Csound, SuperCollider, RtCmix, Pd, OpenMusic: What Distr
I've only used two distributions for music: Arch and KXStudio. KXStudio pretty much works out of the box and has good sane defaults. I use it for the machine that I use for a DAW. However it's not really aimed at music coders, and that shows imo (not a criticism of the distro, which I like a lot). A...

Re: If you could live-edit a plugin in Ardour a la max4live.
Not to be negative, but I can do everything that your system proposes to do in SuperCollider and JACK. And a whole lot more I suspect. Granted SuperCollider is not perfect, but it's robust, fast and has a whole bunch of extensions, filters/DSP units along with a healthy community. Similarly CSound. ...

Re: Carla as a sampler?
I know you've probably already answered this falkTX...
Is Carla going to support OSC as well as MIDI? I'm kind of wondering if I can access CV inputs so as to avoid zippering.
And I'm super excited about this. This will work really well with my existing SuperCollider/Ardour workflow.
