Re: dssi-vst and "best" distribution for a DAW
You can't just put the words "stable" and "dssi-vst" in the same sentence... dssi-vst (and any other Windows based solution in Linux) is a potential crash on the host. :( I suppose some level of instability is hardly surprising, too much glue and duct tape I guess, albeit ...

Re: dssi-vst and "best" distribution for a DAW
I really have had some bad experiances with ubuntu studio. Every time I use it jack is bugged to where it just doesn't work and it seems like there are a ton of broken packages. I would just install the kxstudio ppas It has everything on there and falktx makes sure everything works. There is docume...

dssi-vst and "best" distribution for a DAW

The limitations described on that homepage are pretty significant. Is there any other approach to using VSTi plugins under Linux? And with or without dssi-V...

Re: New sfArk utility for Linux
But since what is stored derives from this "predicted value", then if the decompressor's calculations differ from the compressor's, then you have what is for all practical purposes a lossy decompression because the resulting soundfont will be different from the original. What you are desc...

Re: New sfArk utility for Linux
... a programmer should do such conversions only if small rounding errors are irrelevant, which they are not in what is supposed to be a lossless compression algorithm. That would be true if the source data were converted between integer and floating point - it is not - only the prediction values. ...

Re: New sfArk utility for Linux
What i *think* Jeff is seeing as 'rounding errors' here is that he appears to have taken a binary (possibly compiled with architecture-specific optimizations) and disassembled that. That'd easily produce code that doesn't work accurately on other architectures. Just guessing here though. I've alrea...

Re: New sfArk utility for Linux
And now that that is over and done, and for anybody that might find it interesting, here are a few actual facts ... * The original version of sfArk was available in 1997 and generally released in 1998. It was intended as a fairly quick fix for a significant problem - large audio files and slow inter...
