Ubuntu Studio Performance Issues

I recently upgraded from KXstudio 14.04 to the current version of Ubuntu Studio, and I'm wondering whether anybody has any insights on the system performance issues I'm seeing. I'm a very casual user. Most of my computer use is websurfing, e-mail, Libreoffice, and very light gaming like online Flash...

Re: Record amSynth

Thanks for the recommendation, Zirbert. Just curious, does JACK Timemachine record whatever is on the speakers, or does it take input from another program (i.e. a synth or a drum sequencer)? And, does it let you create layers, or is it more for capturing a sketch of a song? It's closer to recording...

Re: Record amSynth

You could also use Jack Timemachine. Nice and simple - the only things I had to dig to find out were where the output file goes (your home folder, by default) and the unusual default file format (just rename it to .wav if it bothers you).

Re: What distros are you using?

Then I tried Dream Studio (http://www.dickmacinnis.com/dreamstudio/), based on Ubuntu. I only had to remove the Unity desktop environment to make it useable, What desktop environment did you choose? Truth be told, I wasn't sure! :-) I just checked - Gnome Classic. Very comfortable and familiar if y...

Re: What distros are you using?

I used Ubuntu Studio as my primary OS for a long time, but a couple of months back *all* audio suddenly stopped working. Not a hardware issue, because audio in other OSes worked fine on the same PC (set up for dual-booting XP, and I tried some live distros). When a few hours of Googling and tweaking...

Re: No Audio After Using Jack

Solved, thanks! My non-JACK apps use Pulseaudio (I had no idea until I started digging, at falkTX's suggestion), which JACK was stopping. Starting Pulseaudio back up from the command line ($ pulseaudio --start) after I'm done with JACK gets it going again. I was/am heistant to enable the dbus option...

No Audio After Using Jack - SOLVED

Hi, Longtime lurker, first-time question-poster. :-) I suspect / hope I'm missing something really newbish. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 12.04. My normal audio usually works fine. I can watch YouTube videos in Firefox, play videos or music in VLC, etc., without difficulties. However, if I start the JAC...
