Re: Band-In-A-Box on Linux; BIAB
I thought I'd update this. Over the past couple of weeks I've been setting up an AVL-MXE system on my home office PC. I uninstalled linvst and installed yabridge in its stead. I went and searched the fora on the PGMusic website and found someone who had BiaB mostly running, so I decided to give it a...

Re: Windows Audio vs. Linux Audio
one can't destroy my OS. ..... The only way to destroy my OS is to format its partition/hard drive. So you can destroy your OS. The main reason for not using the root account by default is to protect one's OS from one's own mistakes and/or malware. With Windows, until fairly recently, one pretty mu...

Re: Band-In-A-Box on Linux; BIAB
:D -- Well, yes, it's very old because I don't use it. I tend at present to use either iRealPro or BackUpBand, and will likely continue to use both as they have advantages over BIAB (IMHO), but there are aspects of BIAB that definitely are useful, hence the question. I have no desire to spend probab...

Band-In-A-Box on Linux; BIAB
Hi all, Having recently installed Win7 in a VirtualBox on Linux and found most things working reasonably to well, I thought I'd rake out my old copy of Band-In-A-Box (2013) and give it a try. I did this partly because my bandmates sometimes send me the BIAB files of proposed songs, and I just don't ...

Re: AV Linux 2020.1.14 Release Candidate for testing only
This is regarding supported hardware and is off topic here really, but I should post somewhere. I use AVLinux with a touch-screen and a SoundCraft Ui24R and the combination all seems to work pretty flawlesly, subject too the screen being only single-touch. The Ui24R works beautifully as a mixer for...

Re: Please share your gnu/linux music production setup
Hmm, OK. I have a little home studio and we do a few gigs, mostly for charity. The Linux setup is on an AMD FX-4100 CPU on a GigaByte mainboard in a mini-tower, mounded sideways on a 19" rack tray. That may soon change to a proper 19" case, but I've decided the processor is OK. SSD drive f...

Re: BackupBand
Not yet. Right now I'm doing a major update.... Is there anything I can do to help? I've tried to analyse what goes on within the code, but I have to admit that I get rather phased by the pointers-with-offsets and no names, so whilst I've understood how the data from song files is processed, I stil...

I found a way. I added .sh and then ran in terminal Might your executable also not be marked as executable? gordon@gordon-office:$ ls -l BackupBand -rwxr-xr-x 1 gordon gscott 316840 Dec 31 17:03 BackupBand ^ ^ if so, the chmod command or a right-click->Properties on the file can change that. The ot...

Re: QJackCtl sessions or Patchbay
I use a combination of tools for this kind of thing, all run from a script. jack_lsp jack_connect jack_disconnect are the bits I use for jack connection management. The script is in python, starts/stops all of the tools I want for a session, complete with options like each application's session, con...

Re: BackupBand
The link I originally put on the first post in this thread is to the 'summary' page on sourceforge, which has the current released version, 1.0, for download. If you want to try the proposed 1.1 version, you'll need to download from the 'code' page on sourceforge, here: https://sourceforge.net/p/bac...

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?
I really don't understand people coughing up hundreds of dollars for Ableton or Bitwig. But that's me. I agree, but there are commercial tools that are reasonably priced, sensible and effective, like Mixbus, Renoise and Reaper, for example. Maybe now is a time to remind us that we can't have it bot...

Hmm, for me it seems reliably to give no content.DoosC wrote:Maybe you can find this useful
Possibly something to do with my anti-tracking strategy as I find Google often gets caught by it.

Re: BackupBand
For me, sound of BackupBand is not really what I am looking for, and therefore connection to external synth-program would provide more options on selecting sound. At least when I tested, adding new sound to BB was not too simple, or I think it was undocumented. It's certainly true that there are so...
