Re: Intel CPU security flaw

Related, but more selfish question: I was just about to start putting together a new system. Any guesses as to when the new, "fixed," hardware will be available?

Re: Poll ZynAddSubFX new UI

Other than the ramp-up time to relearn the UI, are there any other drawbacks? I've admittedly used ZynAddSubFX so infrequently in the past that the new UI seems much prettier, but not much less complex. It may get me to actually use ZASF though! :D

Re: Missing component non-free

I'd rather make music than study licences.

OMG, should I be worried that LinuxSampler's going to show up on my doorstep some night and break my fingers unless I give them edit access to my terrible music? :P

Am I breaking the law? Yes? Good! All the more in the spirit of rock-n-roll! :D

Re: Audacity's disrespectful in 16.04!

Can't you install it with terminal? sudo apt-get audacity would do the job for 2.1.3 perhaps you get the 2.1.2 version with something like: sudo apt-get audacity 2.1.2 Yep, that would install 2.1.2-1 on my system. There was some question a few posts up between 2.1.2 and 2.1.2-1. I've done 2.1.2-1, ...

Re: Audacity's disrespectful in 16.04!

Strange. Very strange. I use audacity for over 15 years now and never ever had such problems. It alway's worked well. My advice would be try other versions, but you've already tried other versions which wouldn't help. I use 2.1.2 which for me is stable. Tried that version? Does anyone have a link t...

Re: Audacity's disrespectful in 16.04!

Yes, I uninstalled Audacity and deleted .audacity-data, rebooted (for good luck), then reinstalled Audacity from the Ubuntu repos. AFAICT, the version in the Ubuntu repos, 2.1.2-1 is NOT beta. No luck though. I also tried, each time thoroughly uninstalling Audacity and deleting .audacity-data: -inst...

Re: Audacity's disrespectful in 16.04!

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem. New install of kubuntu 16.04, attempting to start audacity kicks up the 'debug report' window. 'log.txt' shows: 16:29:38: Audacity 2.1.2 16:29:38: Error: Impossible to get permissions for file '/home/mark/.audacity-data/pluginr...

When I do a new installation, I like to browse the repos for audio apps and install a bunch of them. Somewhat haphazard...

KXStudio package clarifications

As I'm reinstalling the KXStudio repos, I'd like some clarifications on the different packages available. Forgive my noobiness if some of the answers are obvious. :) 1)Some packages have a *-git version. What's the difference between the *-git version and the regular version? Are they more 'bleeding...

(Solved!) No audio from browsers

I'm updating my system to Kubuntu 15.10. As always, I start with a fresh install, then install the KXStudio repos over it. With the last 3 or 4 upgrades I've done this way, I've always had some kind of problem getting audio out of google-chrome-stable or chromium-browser, that I'm able to fix by eit...

Re: Why I'm giving up on KXStudio

One specification KXStudio doesn't uphold is the engineering "Iron Triangle" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_m ... t_triangle: somehow, falktx is able to deliver good AND fast AND cheap. :D
