Re: Dragonfly Hall Reverb

Yeah, I'm not sure that there is a way to do realtime reverse on an algorithmic reverb like Dragonfly well its certainly possible by inducing latency equal to the length of the tail, then effectively running the algorithm backwards. There might be a more clever way, but inevitably if you want to he...

Re: Are you addicted to a genre of music?

Prog. I am a confessed prog-head. Notice there's a mellotron in my signature.
I do like many other music genres, but when it gets down to writing and arranging, it's always been prog. Mainly.

Binaural convolution plugin?

Hi Back when I recorded on a mac OX9 machine (pre-2004), I used an interesting free processing program called SoundHack, which had a binaural processing feature, with which I could process a mono sound signal to sound as if it came from anywhere 360 degrees round the head. It also had a feature wher...

Re: Elektor Vocoder

That brings back memories. (I though Elektor was a german magazine?) They also sported a complex analog synthesizer I remember.
But as much as I would love to build a vocoder, I think I will await the release of Behringers VC340 - a component-by-component clone of the legendary Roland VP330.

Re: windows95 v1.1: Floppy Disk Support!

Yeah. Emulators like this are a chance to run otherwise obsolete programs from the past. Many of the synths of that age had Win 95 librarians etc. and these may be revived once again.

Re: Best synths?

phasex is very nice synth, one of, say, 5 my favorites. not pure subtractive or FM or wavetable, but hybrid. and how could happen no one mentioned bristol ? this is the very first softsynth on linux that i massively used. a bit quirky to use, but has very nice emulations of old classic machines fro...

Re: Best synths?

Tested dexed. Crafting own sounds with it does not seem to be that easy, but are people mostly using it with some downloaded patches? https://www.audiopluginguy.com/free-dexed-plus-tonnes-patches/ Dexed is an implementation of the DX7(++), and the DX7 was notorius for being difficult to program, or...

Re: Best synths?

The best of both worlds in your view guys would be digitally controlled analog synths. This dude is quite active in that realm: https://m0xpd.blogspot.com/ That's wonderful! The idea of using a small devices, like the Arduino, to act as a sequencer is a really good idea. I guess it could produce bo...

Re: Best synths?

One point in favour of hardware instruments. Some of these things are 30-40-50 years old. And they still work, with a bit of care taken of course. How many of the present software based products will run on the computers of 30-40-50 years from now? It will be a bit like running Commodore 64 programs...

Re: Best synths?

I admit I have to agree with Chaocractors single word. Currently I am lusting for all the disruptive gear being announced by Behringer. But, otherwise I have had some pretty good results with the OB-XD soft synth. Is anyone aware of a wavetable synthesizer for Linux? I have my trusty old Ensoniq TS1...

Re: How can I run a basic MIDI sampler on Raspberry Pi?

One possibility is to prepare the samples as a soundfont, with the different samples assigned to individual keys, then start whatever version of Carla is available on the Pi and open the soundfont (which will load an instance of fluidsynth - a sample playback program). In Carla you can also route MI...

Re: Live with Linux

Thanks. The live recordings were mixed from only two sound sources - a mid side mic recording in front of the stage, and a stereo recording from the mixer board. The balance of both recordings were uneven, so it is a bit of a miracle that a listenable mix could be made out of the two. The price thou...

Re: Live with Linux

Then you'll be surprised to learn that Leslie is in fact the built in Leslie effect of the SetBFree :D I linked the sustain pedal CC on MIDI channel 2 to the Leslie, so it can be spun up and down by foot. I cannot vouch for the playability of the M-Audio keyboard, as I am the guitarist, and I use a ...
