Re: Linux DAW to use for Live Looping Performance?
Sooperlooper is a really good program. Owen Pallett uses it professionally (albeit on a Mac, but still, same thing)

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20
Those clicks you're hearing is the clock jitter I described earlier. The only real workaround for this is to do that witchcraft with an external clock and running the proprietary mixer app under a VM. Or just run it at a lower sampling rate. Mine still runs great at 48k.

Re: Ix
dude, sorry to say but applause is very professionally recorded (outro), rest is not translating very well on my cheap headphones Oh yeah, I should have updated my original post, since we added an additional recording later. The live set we just recorded with my wife's little Zoom H4 (I think) hand...

A little single I recorded with my band called "Placeholder" Ardour 3 I think we used on these, some Calf plugins here and there. Used Guitarix on the bass as a pre. I would have liked to master these myself with Jamin, but I've yet to figure that out, so we went with an external company f...

Giada may suit your needs. Or SooperLooper, depending on how long your samples are.

Re: Total noob, need an interface
2i2 is still great. I used mine with a DI box, and that took care of the clipping issue for me.

Re: Keith McMillen Softstep 2
Never saw the foococo project before, really intriguing, though I don't really think it's gonna be all that usable in the alpha stage it's in now. I have the first version of this device. Strangely enough the old editor actually kind of worked under WINE (I'm as puzzled as anybody else as to how tha...

Wholeheartedly agree on the Scarlett 2i2, one of the best little units money can buy!

Re: Looking for a rackmount 8 in 8 out usb interface that wo
You want a focusrite 18i20: http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-18i20 The only caveat with this unit is problems running it higher than 48k. (More than you'll ever realistically need, but still worth noting.) with the Focusrite 18i20 I see that it uses some kinda of software to co...

Re: lemur for android now available
will it work with a linux host though? Just looked this up, and one of the requirements is a "Lemur Daemon" which functions as a midi/OSC host on the computer you're connecting it to. I have my doubts that it would work at all with Linux (save for maybe with a PureData patch or something,...

Re: mixing metal guitars too early in the mixing process?
Have you noticed your mixes being too crowded sounding once you add in the other instruments? If that's the case I would strip the processing back a bit until it sounds a bit more "balanced", and then add in the effects as you need them again. (I don't really play metal anymore, but I typi...

Re: Jitsi Videobridge - Skype / Hangouts alternative
Anybody try the Android version? I've dug around for a FOSS alternative to Skype for some time, but the only people I Skype with are gonna end up using their tablet (even though, for example, my mother has a laptop with Ubuntu on it) so it would definitely need to be at least somewhat cross platform...

Re: Bring back DIN to Linux campaign
I was never super crazy about the interface, and never ended up using DIN for anything serious, but I really appreciate what he's doing as a sort of art piece in of itself, so I donated a little cash. It's certainly more interesting seeing this sort of thing getting made than you know, 99% of the co...
