pianobook.co.uk has some very good cinematic libraries for DecentSampler. You won't have a full balanced orchestra, but you can put together your own big, dramatic soundtracks with the right libraries.

Re: Ardour 7.0 has been released
Ardour 7 continues to improve quickly. They just released 7.5. It was sad to see Ardour's tempo mapping quite broken early in Ardour 7, but then it got fixed. And now one of the best apps at tempo mapping gets even better with this release.

Ardour 7.3 Released
Since no one has mentioned it yet. The 7.3 release has stability and bug fixes for the 7 series (the ones I've been eagerly anticipating), updates to VST3, and other new features.

Re: Poweramps available in Linux
I don't use Guitarix much these days, but I just started playing with https://guitarml.com/#products. I like some of the tones. And there are Linux native and open source plugins.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition 21.2 development news
Update: On hold waiting for Ardour 7.1... You are wise. When you first said you would wait for another Ardour release, I was excitedly running Ardour 7.0.2, but after several major transport and tempo issues (and other issues now being fixed), I moved back to Ardour 6.9, and I remembered your words...

Re: Can Linux really handle all genres of music?
With a quick look, it is not going to change anything, because orchestral stuff is based on VSCO CE which has been on list of freely available SFZ libraries. So same sounds and possibilities just packaged to plugin, instead of using SFZ. Same base sound library, but the VSTs simplify layering, huma...

Re: Can Linux really handle all genres of music?
Going back to options available for orchestral music, Orchestools has some Linux VSTs (made with Hise) that are quite fun to use. I don't think they've been mentioned yet, maybe because they haven't been around that long.

Just remove the .gz. The files aren't actually compressed. Not sure why someone would upload them like that.tripomatic wrote: But if i download it, BeatZille-Linux.tar.gz, i can't extract it

Re: U-He Beatzille for free!
Obligatory comment that proprietary software that is distributed free of change is still unethical. Let's keep it free. I personally feel that this original post by FaTony was fine, not crazy in the head, and not off topic. What's wrong with a reminder that something is proprietary and not open sou...

Re: Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels
On my decent computer, I haven't needed a realtime kernel. I've had good performance with Manjaro stock kernels (preempt). On my cheapo AMD A4 dual-core, basically a netbook, I can't come close to doing what I want without a realtime kernel. I get a ton of xruns on stock (although decent performance...

Re: Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels
Apart from pre-built binaries slightly more recent than those from the Archaudio repo, what is the benefit of Manjaro + RT kernel vs Arch + RT Kernel? The pre-built binaries are a huge plus for me. It literally takes forever (about 7 hours) to do kernel compiles on one little machine that I use for...

so qtractor is too cumbersome? you probably have your own first impressions and reasons. but before it sticks with that, have you ever seen and heard any of these? 1. qtractor wiki , formerly the user manual and quick start guide. 2. Why, Phil? , an awesome series of in-the-zone tutorials re. qtrac...

Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels
As of a few weeks ago, Manjaro has been providing official compiled realtime kernels for music production in their repos, and with quite a few hardware support options. Manjaro already makes it easy to enjoy Arch's cutting-edge rolling releases. Now Manjaro is making it super easy to run an Arch-bas...

Re: Is Ardour 4 fit to use?
I'm waiting for it to show up on Arch. I never really got on with 3, but they seem to have fixed all the annoyances. Try ardour-git on AUR. It's been serving Ardour4 for some time. I haven't yet done any projects with 4, but I played around with midi and midi plugins in a way that I'm sure would ha...
