Just remove the .gz. The files aren't actually compressed. Not sure why someone would upload them like that.

Re: U-He Beatzille for free!

Obligatory comment that proprietary software that is distributed free of change is still unethical. Let's keep it free. I personally feel that this original post by FaTony was fine, not crazy in the head, and not off topic. What's wrong with a reminder that something is proprietary and not open sou...

Re: Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels

On my decent computer, I haven't needed a realtime kernel. I've had good performance with Manjaro stock kernels (preempt). On my cheapo AMD A4 dual-core, basically a netbook, I can't come close to doing what I want without a realtime kernel. I get a ton of xruns on stock (although decent performance...

Re: Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels

Apart from pre-built binaries slightly more recent than those from the Archaudio repo, what is the benefit of Manjaro + RT kernel vs Arch + RT Kernel? The pre-built binaries are a huge plus for me. It literally takes forever (about 7 hours) to do kernel compiles on one little machine that I use for...

Re: A good MIDI sequencer?

so qtractor is too cumbersome? you probably have your own first impressions and reasons. but before it sticks with that, have you ever seen and heard any of these? 1. qtractor wiki , formerly the user manual and quick start guide. 2. Why, Phil? , an awesome series of in-the-zone tutorials re. qtrac...

Manjaro (Arch) Has Realtime Kernels

As of a few weeks ago, Manjaro has been providing official compiled realtime kernels for music production in their repos, and with quite a few hardware support options. Manjaro already makes it easy to enjoy Arch's cutting-edge rolling releases. Now Manjaro is making it super easy to run an Arch-bas...

Re: Is Ardour 4 fit to use?

I'm waiting for it to show up on Arch. I never really got on with 3, but they seem to have fixed all the annoyances. Try ardour-git on AUR. It's been serving Ardour4 for some time. I haven't yet done any projects with 4, but I played around with midi and midi plugins in a way that I'm sure would ha...

Re: Midi+Audio mixdown & pan/vol in Qtractor: a hack & a hal

My solution seems to work, though: I use inserts (without using their returns) to create fake aux-sends to my reverb buses. On http://www.marzen.de/tmp/qtractor-mixer.png the two "Echo 1 Aus" and "Echo 2 Aus" on the right side of the screenshot have inserts that work like aux-se...

Re: Midi+Audio mixdown & pan/vol in Qtractor: a hack & a hal

Some comments on my own experiences while using Qtractor. You will quickly bump into limitations when you start to route audio busses (sends, effect tracks, mix downs, etc.) directly back into other Qtractor audio busses. It's something that looks possible and powerful, but you'll either end up with...

Re: How do I write drum notation?

denemo looks like the best contender so far but Ive enountered a couple of issues which prevent me from using it. Hopefully a forum member will be able to help as I've had no response from denemo-devel yet. Denemo is a front end to Lilypond. For doing specialized notation, it might be easiest to ju...

Re: DrumGizmo and Qtractor

I think with qtractor, the only thing that works is to load DrumGizmo into Carla (or another lv2 host) and use it as you would an external instrument.

The Software shall be used for Good, not Evil. Vague and, legally, completely benign. Why bother to worry about it? Not saying that Paradox's posts aren't over the top. I didn't see anything like this last one before the moderators stepped in. My comment above was about a different post from a long...

Re: Millennium DSP Plugin-Suite.

I like some of the weird, custom licenses out there. They can be quite fun. If you don't like them or don't trust them, quite a few, almost all, don't stop you from adding your favorite license as you start to work with the code. If you wanted to be really technical about many of these licenses, you...

These interviews have been amazing. Thank you! I wonder why they aren't being promoted on some of the Linux feed sites like LXer.
