Re: RME RayDAT not recognized after firmware upgrade

Interesting: 2x ADAT for 600 €. 4x ADAT actually (4 in, 4 out), a rock solid clock and MIDI I/O, I'd be curious to see any serious alternative in that price range. ...actually 4x ADAT, 2x MIDI i/o, plus a SPDIF pair and AES too, and one can expand with 1x WC in + 2x WC out with a word-clock module....

I plugged my little cheap Scarlett Solo in and it works like normal, so this is definitely the Evo. Thoughts?

Hi there. You could try plugging the interface(s) to another machine (be it Win / Mac / Linux...) to try if it really is the Evo, or some config mishap.

qpwgraph not showing digital I/O

Hi all, my interface features both analog and digital (ADAT, SPDIF, AES) ins and outs, but qpwgraph shows only 8x analog inputs (capture) and 8x outputs (playback), plus 8x monitor channels. Why do I not see 8x ADAT in/out, 2x SPDIF and 2x AES? Coming from qjackctl (shows 20x capture, 20x playback),...

Re: Headphones leaking when overdubbing

Thanks for the answers guys, I could have been more specific... The mic array is XY cardios + AB omnis spaced around 60 cm apart, 30 and 30 from the XY center. I record classical guitar(s). Already lowered metronome gain to -15 dB, which helps but it gets less and less pronounced each overdub. Sadly...

Re: Linux PC Builds for Audio Production. Recommended Hardware

I've never seen / heard a silent laptop of reasonable performance, so you may want to build you a desktop PC. I'd suggest you look for CPUs where TDP <= 65 W, for example AMD Ryzen, eventually with ECO mode ON for the higher clocked X-series. (You can get a MoBo supporting ECC RAM modules as an extr...

Headphones leaking when overdubbing

Hi all, it happens to me when I overdub that some sound played back gets into the track I'm laying over. I use a SDC array about 80 cm in front of me (2,6 feet) with apparently enough gain to pick louder parts here and there from MDR-7506 or ATH-M50. Tried different ear pads... to varying results I'...

Re: RME Fireface UFX III

People use it to keep hassling them to release the official Linux driver, who knows, one day they may succeed 8) ...or build up enough frustration to end the hassling and turn themselves elsewhere. CC mode on their stuff is very nice (having an UCX II), but there are some restrictions https://forum...

Re: Zoom recorders on Linux

Discovered the Zoom F8n recently, and it's a very nice unit to use, at half the price of a SoundDevices. But I gathered that despite being class compliant, it doesn't work as a multi-channel interface in Linux, which kind of kills it for me as an investment. Or does anyone run this recorder with al...

We should make sure studio one gets to know we appreciate this!

How can I appreciate a closed-source, paid DAW, in Linux, when there is an open-sourced one free to use... I don't get it.

Just one more question...

Since I'm happy with the performance of my setup, I won't touch anything.

...maybe you could :-) how hot is it running?
If you'd have a contactless thermometer at hand, could you give it a try? After like an hour or so of usage, or at least idling.

Re: Audient EVO 16 - Experiences

I'm curious about why you ask and what does this data tell you. :) Thanks a lot! What the data do tell us: Evo16 can go for very low buffer size (32 samples) it achieves sub 6 ms round-trip latency, around 5-ish. One most probably could comfortably record overdubs even without Ardour's latency comp...

Re: Audient EVO 16 - Experiences

No, but I can measure it if someone tells me how to (big plus if there is an Ubuntu package). Thanks! You will need a loopback cable - connect physical output with a physical input. For example take a jack-jack cable, insert into Mic/Line input 8 and Line output 8. Then there are two options: 1) Ar...

Re: Stereo imaging plugin

What we really want is a delay time in ms or µs. That would be independent of the sample rate. But because it's so simple and works well I use the number of samples. The plugin displays time too - in my case 0.625 ms. Delay should be related to the panning percentage. If we want to be very exact th...

For stereo imaging you should use much lower delays than 30 ms. For my taste always under 10 ms.

There still is this question: do you relate the delay to sample rate only, or both the sample rate and panning percentage?

After around 35ms the brain hears them as two different sounds. It's an important number for many other things, such as pre-delay on reverb.

sm = samples, ms = milliseconds - it wasn't a typo
