Re: Using MIDI for RPC

Is there a way to use MIDI to send arbitrary data? Yes. You put the data inside a "System Exclusive" MIDI message. This message starts with the hex byte F0 and ends with the hex byte F7. In between these two bytes can be any number of bytes, for any purpose. But the data bytes must be 7-b...

Re: E-mu 0404 and getting nowhere...

1) Run Synaptics . 2) Search for alsa firmware . 3) Mark that package for installation, and install. 4) Reboot. 5) Don't buy any Creative Labs audio card. Too many features are implemented in software (drivers) rather than hardware. So if you use third party drivers (alsa), typically not all feature...

Re: SF2 positioning questions

put the snare of a drum soundfont on key 1 Don't do that. For unpitched instruments (drums, cymbals, various percussion), try to use General MIDI Drum mapping. For example, midi note number 38 plays a snare, note 36 plays a kick, 51 plays a Ride Cymbal, etc. Here's a chart for GM Drums. MIDI Drum S...

Hmmm. Try downloading the instruments_48k.zip. Then repeat the above steps to set the sample rate to 48000.

Re: BackupBand 0.D

I downloaded it You didn't download "update_0D.zip", right? That's only for upgrading from 0.C. If you unzip the instruments_44k.zip it should create an "Instruments" folder inside of "Home/BackupBand". Inside "Instruments" should be another folder "44kh...

jam sessions/improvisation Yes, that's one of the use cases for this software -- as a practice tool to improve one's technique, especially in regards to improvised solos. The other case is to provide quasi-live backing tracks for a gigging soloist, which is how I use it. It's meant to be used in a ...

BackupBand 0.D

Well that was more work than I thought it would be, but the SongSheet editor is mostly done except for some minor tweaks. There are still a few pages of the manual that need to be finished, but all the essential info is there. If you have version 0.C, then download only update_0D.zip as that has eve...

If everyone here did that, we'd have a massive collection of virtual instruments in LV2 format so that people wouldn't need to hassle with WINE.

Re: Blues Harp needed (SF2 or SFZ)

I wish you guys would sample your instruments, with various nuances included. Then I can make a dedicated harmonica virtual instrument which would be as realistic and playable as possible. The reason there isn't such a thing is only because I don't have the raw materials (samples) I need.

Why has no one mentioned this?

But what you really want is an upcoming project of mine which will be called "Pipes". Hopefully, it will materialize in a couple months.

the SMF tempo/time-sig sequence ... is read ... when first importing a SMF into an empty brand new session from scratch That's exactly when/how I noticed the problem. I'm not a QTractor enduser. (I use Muse). But when I was first evaluating numerous linux MIDI sequencers to see which one I'd adopt,...

Re: Drums in Ardour

care to explain your worries and findings? It appears to be a bug in the code that saves the data to a MIDI file on disk. What is written out is mangled if there are time signature changes. Otherwise the program seems to handle time signatures up until the data is saved to disk. There's a similiar ...
