Re: running two firewire audio interfaces parallel
I used two Mackie 1642 in chain without any problems. It also worked flawlessly with a Mackie 1642 and a Edirol FA-101. But I have to admit they use the same chip. If you daisychain firewire devices it's like one device for jack.

There's a software called Stopmotion for that approach. Kdenlive is also able to capture pictures from a webcam with onion skinning.

Re: KXStudio & AVLinux
It depends on your hardware and what you want to do with your linux box beside musicproduction. If you want more a allround setup, with the newest Apps, 64bit and a shiny (heavy) KDE surface, your better go with KXStudio. If you have older hardware, or want a lighter setup that works ootb for Audio/...

Kdenlive did a alot of refactoring and have a new release out.

Ongoing development of RT Patches is safe for 2015
As Dr. Carsten Emde, head of the Open Source Development Labs (OSADL) anounced (in german) , is the development of the Linux RT Kernel Patches safe in 2015. Re: Linux Audio for Music teaching in Schools
Hallo Johannes, In general you should think about the interface language of a software if you want to use it in a german school environment. Not every (linux) media production software is available with an interface translated into german. From my own experience with AVLinux -wich I would advice for...

Re: Adding a FireWire interface
The FA-101 works in AVLinux out of the box. You just have to make shure to select the sample rate on the device itself AND the same sample rate when you start jack. Use ffado driver (firewire) of course. And as any firewire device in a Linuxbox, it runs most stable with a TI IEEE1394 Chipset. No exp...
