[ArchAudio] Call for maintainers before pulling the plug
Hello folks This holler goes out to you if you are using Arch Linux and (semi-)pro-audio in some capacity. As you may or may not know there existed a "pro-audio project" for like almost 10 years now, but for 70% of that time it was not active. This was mainly due to lack of manpower and se...

Re: Archlinux audio subforum
What needs to be done basically, likely with support from the greater Arch community (Manjaro, Parabola, etc.): - A web developer for the website and forums (one big upgrade: make everything look consistent - nice layouts, no broken stuff) - A server administrator to setup website and packaging infr...

Re: Archlinux audio subforum
Hi guys, I am not sure if it's a good idea to bump this after so long, but I thought I might shout out a few things: - As an Arch packager I shamefully admit that the most important proaudio packages have lately seen major delays in updates due to my RL situation having become difficult over the las...

Re: [ANN] Qtractor 0.6.7 - The Lepton Acid beta release!
funkmuscle: Thanks for the notice! I've uninstalled my qt5 build and installed the latest repo build which is working fine. I can't believe it took so long to get into the Arch repos! ;) . I've been noticing that lately with audio programs.. It's like if the Arch devs don't want folks using it for ...

Re: Debian, Fedora/RHEL, (Open)SUSE, Mint, Gentoo and Arch s
yep Schiv, you and Speps are great at updating packages in AUR.. thanx you guys again.. and I think the 3 pro-audio are still kind of active as I've received the latest rt kernel a week ago through one. You're welcome, and Joakim Hernberg (JackWinter/jhernberg) is the only one who uploads binaries ...

Re: Debian, Fedora/RHEL, (Open)SUSE, Mint, Gentoo and Arch s
That is also another reason the arch pro-audio went stale as no one really had issues with the distro that uses it. That. But in addition, it's because no-one has stepped up to package stuff (since they would rather simply makepkg than go through a cumbersome Subversion dance), and active packagers...

Re: Move KXStudio to ArchLinux?
Hello folks, just want to write a little something after-the-fact (I suppose?) to add yet another opinion (you never can have enough of those!). Read on if you're bored :P Arch Linux is a niche distribution and will for the foreseeable future remain to be so. Whatever popularity it has gained over t...

Re: Klaudia on Arch, need help
Ardour does not have LADISH support (Lv1) by default, it has to be patched first. Latest Debian has this, but the Ardour devs don't like this (it's the JACK-Session vs LADISH argument...) This is at least 1 point where I would have to change the database. Yes, in that case, we won't be supporting i...

Re: Klaudia on Arch, need help
LOL guys I can help only just as much as any one of us could :) Then run klaudia and tell me which values/features are not valid for Arch. (I suspect Ardour is built without LADISH support) Great..first time running a dbus-enabled jack (package: jack2). I'm a little bit concerned about this. At one ...

Re: KXStudio - Carla
Yes, sorry for the assumption; I thought you only needed to check for a required kernel version. I noticed some 'cp' in Klaudia, but that's all. /boot/config-* is part of the FSH, but not mandatory I think (may or may not be provided). Arch Linux does not have them, for instance, but I don't know if...

Re: Klaudia on Arch, need help
I have to use an hardcoded database because there's no proper way to detect a binary version and features. For example, current Ardour in Arch does not have LV2 support, how would I detect that? Ahh so that's why - I didn't get how you were determining functionality support. I just realised even pk...

Re: KXStudio - Carla
it's the same thing: >>> platform.uname()[2] '2.6.32-32-generic-pae' >>> os.uname()[2] '2.6.32-32-generic-pae I'll still have to do string parsing anyway... Since you're using Linux-specific commands anyway in your scripts, you can simply get this one done by using Bash's regexp conditional (since ...

Re: Klaudia on Arch, need help
Hi FalkTX You have great apps there. I was made aware of the kxstudio apps quite some time ago and was always interested in taking a look, but never got to it. Funkmuscle just gave me a nudge again, and finally I've taken a look :D Furthermore, I love Qt, and KDE, and Python (who doesn't?). 1. # lis...

Re: Windows vs non realtime kernel Linux
Give and take. They're both on par. Now, I've rarely seen any studio box (Windows/Mac) "break". When it comes to a professional setting, you usually deploy and forget. Most of them do not have access to the internet, and a lot are running Windows XP SP2 for what, maybe more than half a dec...

Re: Crossing the Arch
My personal recommendation would be AVLinux :) And I think there is a mass misconception about Ubuntu and "newbie-friendly" distros - they're not just for the "target market". I personally know at least one Nokia developer/engineer who uses Ubuntu, and it got replaced by Windows ...
