There is another solution : the Guitarix virtual amp has midi out and works pretty well too. Linux native and easy to set up.

The id4 doesn't need any software interface, because all parameters can be set with the hardware itself. And you can have a microphone input and a DI input.

Audient I4 is in your price range and has a real good preamp and DI, I had one and was very happy with it.

It was playing ok for me also, but for example importing sample or sfz, import dialog fails commonly. Not every time, but pretty often. Was it same problem for you? Seems a great app ! It loads fine but I can't actually remember how to route midi java to alsa or jack... I once knew but forget. Thanks for that anyway !
