Re: EZDrummer alternative?

Here is a video about Drums in an Open Source environment with, with pros and cons. "Drums: A comparative review of different options" https://youtu.be/Qb-7dqUAxh0 Thanks for sharing this. Excellent presentation and an accurate assessment of where we are. I was very excited to learn about...

Fair enough, and you certainly make it work (very) well. Would you really recommend that to a new Linux user though?

I think our community tends to forget how alien this world is to musicians who are not used to it

Re: Audio engineering on Linux

If you give us an example of something you do with Windows we could suggest how you would do that with Linux. For example: using Cubase to record a live performance, or using Wavelab to tidy up .wav files. OP, this would certainly help us direct you to what you need. I'm curious to know if there ar...

Re: DAW vs DAW

I've been reading Admiral Bumblebee's stuff for awhile (not so much the videos). He writes detailed, exhaustive reviews which is pretty unusual these days. He wrote an especially good piece on Mixbus plugins (including a focus on x42's work) which I think is mostly spot-on. The DAW vs. DAW series is...

A little Khruangbin-y too. This is great stuff!

Nice guitar sounds. Can you share a little about your process/tools?

Re: AMP for electric uke. Any suggestions?

Happy Birthday! A used Roland Micro Cube will get you where you want to go. If you can spend a little more, the Yamaha THR10 is a great value. Nice variety of sounds including cleans. It's reliable, sturdy, and super portable. I've even done a couple bass gigs at nursing homes on it (it has two 3&qu...

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

Oh something to add that sort-of fits here: I wrote a letter to Tape Op last month (if you don't know it, Tape Op is a fantastic, free magazine focused on audio engineering) and asked them to state Linux compatibility when reviewing hardware (at the end of the reviews where they list OS requirements...

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

The more the merrier! I don't think musicians swarming to Linux is a problem that we will be lucky enough to have though. I use Linux because it works, and because the other two real options for a desktop OS are offensive to me on an ethical level. But to be 100% honest, making music on Linux has st...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

I had a drive failure last week Do you want to get the data back? I've had good results with ddrescue : https://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/manual/ddrescue_manual.html Thanks merlyn! I got 100% recovery. I run Back in Time nightly so restoring was easy (I'm a little excessive with backing up at h...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

This is bad news for me; I've just installed Ubuntu Studio last weekend and was about to add the KX repos (and amongst other things I wanted to use Cadence instead of Ubuntu Studio Controls). Do you remember where you read that? Do you have a link maybe? Erich Eickmeyer from Ubuntu Studio has said ...

I found this quite mesmerizing. Very nice to hear some real-world plucked strings in this style of music.

Downright cinematic.

Dragging my feet on exploring VCV because it looks way too complicated for me, but this clip might inspire me to dig in.

Lovely. It almost seems as though there's a space left in the song for words that may be too hard to find right now.

Re: My first recording in a full Linux environment ^^

This is a lovely soundscape. Congrats on finishing your first all-Linux project and hope there will be more! I might suggest placing an EQ on the master bus and lowering the midrange just a bit. That might open up some sonic space. Also I notice that there is very little (if any?) stereo panning, an...
