Sampler to sequencer in realtime
Hi, I want to take.my friend's percussion of found objects and feed the audio stream into a system that auto segments the stream into samples and then feeds those samples into a sequencer with a predetermined 'shape', so that the samples are tracked in an automatic way. Does anyone know if there is ...

Re: Gah....
I've been using Linux everyday since 2008, and I first installed it back in the late 90s. I have been programming on and off since the early 80s, so I wouldn't describe myself as a noob. I have thought about volunteering to help ubuntustudio but I'm short of time as it is at the moment. My point was...

Re: Gah....
Thanks for that, I didn't know. However, the problem is that the distro isn't doing it for noobs, who are getting lost because they don't know how to do anything, such as the canvas->autofit in carla to see the new plugin etc. I've just had a friend of mine stop using linux and return to windows bec...

Re: Gah....
The pulseaudio stops with the systemctl --user command above. However, I am annoyed about ubuntustudio. I doubt that noobs would be able to tolerate it, as there a couple of things that are really cruddy, and difficult for noobs to understand. The first is that the panel sound control doesn't adjust...

Re: Gah....
Thanks for that. I tried the systemd --user commands and to no avail, or rather, it works sometimes. I've also had to quit using ubuntu studio as it is really unstable, with ardour crashing regularlly. As soon as I can figure out how to rejig the installation script to handle my partitioning layout ...

Re: Gah....
Ubuntu Studio Controls is exclusive though, as you can't install cadence side by side it. That was my point. I am now using Ubuntu Studio, since there are no other decent options as far as I am concerned, as I don't like AV Linux, and I don't currently have the time to safely install gentoo studio (...

Re: EEK. Ubuntu studio using system wide instance of pulseaudio
Thanks for your detailed reply, #nicgnomicradio. I didn't think to check the --user flag of systemd, I only know of one other app that uses it, which profile-sync-daemon. I have removed pulseaudio. As I did, it took ubuntustudio-controls, and all of the ubuntu theming, the desktop, menu etc. in fact...

EEK. Ubuntu studio using system wide instance of pulseaudio
In ubuntu studio disco dingo, pulseaudio is listed as being a child process of systemd (using pstree). However, I cannot find any reference to a systemd unit file. I am relatively certain that I have always been advised to never run pulsaudio as a system wide instance, for security reasons. I also a...

Re: Ubuntu Studio Disco Dingo - performance data
Ok, I've just discovered that I can right click the stats at the top of ardour, and can choose xruns, to display that.
My buffers are at 100 percent, and my dsp load is maxing out at 100%, just from playing a couple of drum sounds through drumgizmo. Pants!

Re: Ubuntu Studio Disco Dingo - performance data
I've just spun up ardour, using carla, on ubuntu studio. i also have one midi track that I am controlling with a midi keyboard, and a couple of audio plugins. Ardour records the dsp as 72%. Shurely not..... Using kxstudio a similar set up would hit me with hardly anything in comparison, perhaps 20 p...

Ubuntu Studio Disco Dingo - performance data
Hi, I've just started using ubuntu studio disco dingo, and can start a jack session using ubuntu studio controls, but am unable to find where there is a source of information regarding latency, dsp load and xruns. There is some info available in ardour, but I used to use cadence and all of the infor...

Re: Gah....
I meant that it was not following the open source ethic to incorporate some package or other into a piece of software such that the piece of software becomes exclusive. I often used Ubuntu Studio, with the kxstudio repos enabled to allow me to use cadence, which worked well, and looked nice etc, as ...

I'm going to add that on the updated version of the beta kxstudio neon install, I have installed wayland and it is running fine. Looks good and works well.

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio
I installed kxstudio repos for an 18.04 distro a few days ago without error. You have to install the gcc repos, despite the fact that the version of gcc released with ubuntu is in excess of 5.0. Finally, I would like for people to avoid ubuntu studio, since the ethos of writing a program that delibe...
