Re: Firefox sound broken in last update

... ... ...Clicking on the Pulse Bridge button in Cadence does nothing. I guess... because Pulse is not running. Do you have the pulseaudio-module-jack package installed? Umm... no I didn't. So I installed it. Now, when I start the PulseAudio bridge in Cadence, it starts. The sink/source nomenclatu...

Re: Firefox sound broken in last update

How was it a whole year before this problem hit me in a big way? Anyway, along came Firefox 52, and sound was not my first concern: looking at it is. This Australis thing is not for me and never was. Classic Theme Restorer is a must. Firefox 52 no longer supports that and a host of other plugi...

Re: Why people don't like Unity and Ubuntu?

At first I hated Unity. There were two reasons: 1. It looks like a Fisher Price child's toy. 2. I will not have a changed desktop environment imposed on me. I will learn new things as and when I want to: not when I am told to. Thus, I "signed up" for the MATE desktop and later went Mint+MA...

[solved] Mint 17.1/Mate Cadence failure since re-install

Well, it's a long time since I've had any problems to post here, but all good things come to an end :) TL;DR Solved by update to dbus. I installed Linux Mint 17.1 on a spare partition. It was supposed to be a test adventure, but everything, including Compiz and even Emerald, was working well, and I ...

Re: can not log into my session graphically

Actually, I wasn't able to start my desktop at all until after installing the available updates. I always keep my previous-installation partition more-or-less forever, so working (ha ha, if you can call net browsing, etc, "working") wasn't an issue. However, my new install was terminal all...

Re: can not log into my session graphically

I spent half the day worrying over this one (worrying as in dog and bone) and even did more log-file reading than I have in past fifteen years. As I have been setting up and personalising a new Linux Mint 17.1 + Mate 1.8 with minimal KXStudio essentials, but installing all kinds of stuff, I naturall...

Re: Simple audio player that works with JACK

Aqualung works with JACK. Deadbeef works with JACK with the JACK plugin loaded. Once upon a time, just to play music through JACK, with gapless support, seemed to be a huge deal. Now it doesn't seem to be a big problem at all. VLC, when I last looked (a while back) is not good, because it drops the ...

Re: Step on to the future

Oh... RJ45 connectors    They are worse than fragile. They are bound to get broken. I speak from being an IT Manager of the small-company hands-on kind. I spent more time under desks than at conference tables. Please understand that you cannot pull an RJ45 (or similar: it's true...

Amazing. The stuff that I just dipped into looked very clear, very comprehensive and very well presented. Right from the start this is going to be a very valuable resource for anybody doing anything audio with Linux.

Thank you!

Re: skype cuts suport for alsa....and now?

Skype runs on an android phone. How would people feel about using it that way, rather than regarding as something they run on their PC? skype must be the most slow and/or bloated software ever made. I have a very cheap tablet and skype is too slow to be anywhere usable. even while it's idling in th...

Re: Processor frequency setting - Jack CPU use

I am currently only listening to music, so not putting much strain on the system, but I find that the key is to fix the cpu speed. It doesn't have to be at the highest but it has to be fixed. Without that, I get drop-outs. It is the same whether I am using a media player with Calf plugins and Jack, ...
