Re: Places to be?
Yup, misinterpreted me. It's desirable when possible, of course. Let me resume all I was trying to say to one line: "When dealing with new users, think Ubuntu, not Gentoo". Please note that Ubuntu goes as far as to call programs by description instead of by name. That is how we should be t...

Re: A new type of computer ineterface
It's easier on the brain to switch desktops that way... With 4 desktops the effect it's not appreciable, but consider my situation: - I have 10 desktops (and yes, I use them all) - I have no pager in the taskbar, because 10 desktops would take too much space on it, and on my small screen space is at...

Re: OpenShot Video Editor
There was one called MainActor... The reviews, at least of the Windows version, are pretty good
But it got the discontinue hammer when DivX bought the company that made it (MainConcept).

The small size is to not distract people from the original topic too much. Be considerate. I'm sorry, but be considerate of your readers' vision. My eyes are killing me just glancing over that post. Just quote the message to read it in normal size. In my screen it's completely unreadable because I ...

Re: OpenShot Video Editor
I found that Cinelerra's stability depends on the format you're using... With the right format it doesn't crash every half hour.... More like every 45 minutes Don't compare Linux video editing with Windows though.. The sad truth is that Linux is abysmal in this aspect, and will probably still be eve...

Re: A new type of computer ineterface
Yes I do contradict myself a bit, but let's be realistic: Most people doesn't use their photos in messaging, avatars change like running water, so do nicknames.. Also, I specified "massive" for "amounts of data". When chosing options on a common program, those options don't come ...

The small size is to not distract people from the original topic too much. Be considerate. 1. Well, you're an exception rather than the norm. Most normal PC users (and I've worked with a lot, I repair computers) would take GMail over any mail client, any day. It has all the features you need, such ...

OpenShot Video Editor
I just stumbled upon this: http://www.openshotvideo.com/ , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenShot_Video_Editor It's in a rather early development stage, but it's already looking pretty damn good :D This could be just the thing to replace Cinelerra with, at least while Lumiera comes out of the oven (w...

Re: Places to be?
Man, developers and end-users play in different leagues... Please don't mix them  An end-user doesn't care about how the "internal behaviour of Linux" is developed... I believe in people who prefer mailing lists and command line. They are called "developers". I believe in ...

Re: A new type of computer ineterface
I know this is an old post, but over time you'll learn that something like this can't go without a long rant from me  If anyone asks me, it's time to split up computers between different uses and then design interfaces that are optimal for each application. (Despite a lot of people saying the ...

Re: Places to be?
(It's safe to ignore this post) It's easy to open your mailclient and send/watch the mails instead browse a bunch of forums. No, this is 2009, no one uses mail clients anymore (your mail is in a webpage) and it's extremely easy to browse a forum (not a bunch of forums - there should be a common foru...

Re: Places to be?
Personally I don't participate anywhere else.. I'm only on two places on the whole internet :D The one I like to read from time to time is the Sound On Sound forum, and it sure looks like a nice place to write if you have something to say.. Sometimes they bring up very interesting topics (for me any...

Re: Got a laptop? Let's try noise cancelling
Won't work. Latency (it has to be exactly zero - that's why this is done with analog circuits) Distance from speakers to ears (that's why it's only used on headphones) Distance between speakers and mike (on headphones the mikes are right next to the speakers) -- We're talking about simple phase mani...

Re: making a pitch automation with ardour?
Pan and volume - that's all, there's nothing else.
You have to use a plug-in, for this I recommend the "Rubber Band" one.
When you add the plug-in, it's parameters will appear in the automation menu, where pan and volume are.
