Qtractor MIDI sections copied by reference
I've been using Qtractor for MIDI sequencing. When I copy and paste a segment of MIDI, the segment is not duplicated. What I mean is that there are two segments, but editing one segment results in changes in the other segment. Is there a way I can copy and paste a segment so that edits made to one s...

Re: Xruns, but only when transport is stopped
I have been using the -P1 flag so that jackd will run in real-time. The sound card I'm using is an Echo Indigo IOx.

Xruns, but only when transport is stopped
I've been trying this jackd configuration with Qtractor: /usr/bin/jackd -P1 -p128 -dalsa -r96000 -p128 -n2 -D -Chw:0 -Phw:0 -o2 With the transport in play mode, I went 3.5 hours with out a single xrun. In contrast, when the transport is stopped, I get numerous constant xruns. Is this caused by my co...

Best desktop for low latency performance?
Has anyone found that different desktop affect the number of xruns? Or is everything offloaded to the graphics system? I know that, say, fluxbox, is lightweight, but is it less of a magnet for system resources?

Xenomai patched kernels
Has anyone used Xenomai? It looks like some project that is working to develop a real time kernel similar to the preempt kernel.

Re: Sampling in Linux
You can get Giga Studio soundsets from Tascam and others, on ebay or other sales sites. Use them with Linux Sampler. Also, sfz format is being improved in linuxsampler. That works, but it's hard to get comprehensive Gigastudio libraries. Another option is to get samples in another format, and then ...

How good is VST performance?
Since VSTs need to use wine, how well do they perform compared to the other plugin protocols? Is there more latency? Is there more CPU overhead?

Keyboard freezes when waking from suspend
When ever I wake from suspend, my keyboard stops working. I can see it in jack, but when I hit keys, nothing happens. I have to unplug and then replug my keyboard.. Is there a way that I can avoid this?

Re: Your opinion of Intel High Definition Audio
Yes, although I don't really need balance inputs/outputs because I can use cables under one meter in length. Also, the phantom power thing is somewhat of a preamp feature.
How much better does it get with, say, an M-Audio interface?

Your opinion of Intel High Definition Audio
If I'm not mistaken the SNR for playback and recording are above 100 dB, which is better than an iPhone. How much improvement do I get by buying an after market sound card?

Re: which linux is best
I'm using Xubuntu 11.10. I can install almost everything with apt-get, et al. I did do some customization, but not too much. Which distro is the best will depend on the musician using it.

Re: Gnome Shell : heavy weight DEs are fine for audio?
It's probably okay with new computer. On my old machine I had some issues with memory consumption. Firefox is mainly to blame, but using Fluxbox instead of KDE will significantly reduce memory consumption if there is only 1GB on the system. Personally, I use my CPU and memory to run audio apps (as o...
