Re: Is it worth using nice or renice command with Jack aware applications ?

I think it is mainly important that Jack itself runs at high priority which can be set, for example, in QJackCtl, in Setup->Advanced tab. In general you can check your config with this script: https://github.com/raboof/realtimeconfigquickscan

Re: Issue with Bluetooth Mouse and scrolling after "wake-up"

I have a similar problem that my bluetooth mouse does not work at all after the computer wakes from sleep. Sometimes I stop/start bluetooth from the panel app and that fixes it, but sometime the panel app vanishes also. One thing that always works is to run the command as root (or sudo) "servic...

Re: pianoteq sales?

Yes they have occasional sales, e.g. at Black Friday or when they release a new piano model. However, usually their sales are discounts on upgrades, or discounts on buying a 2nd piano, if you pay full price on one. Its hard to get much discounts. It is relatively expensive, but high quality with goo...

Re: What Linux Distribution should I put on my other hard drive partion?

Do you want a general linux distro or a music-production oriented one? For general I suggest Mint, for music, AVLinux. But really there are many choices, that are fairly similar. Also note you usually can make a bootable-USB stick to boot into a linux system and try it out before you install it.

Re: One channel audio

I think most Anrdroid phones have a single mic. If you want to record stereo you need to get an external stereo mic. Google "android stereo microphone".

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

FYI, I don't speak for AV Linux, I'm just a user. Concerning building a audio workstation see the Your Studio & Gear section of the forum. I think your enthusiasm is great, but you may have to make some adjustments to move to linux audio from Mac. You need to be very aware of compatibility of au...

Re: Jack server is not starting

I see the error seems to be: ERROR: firewire ERR: Could not prepare streaming device! I don't know exactly what this means, but it seems that your system could not connect the device. Have you tried the basic things like cycle power, reboot, unplug/replug firewire cable? If that does not work I sugg...

Re: Playing a sampled Instrument in 2021 – is it really that complicated?

Pianoteq has a standalone version which you probably noticed. I play that most of the time because it has the nice feature of recording everything you play, so you can easily save your musical ideas. I have the Estate Piano from productionvoices.com which I never play anymore. I think the piano's at...

Re: Playing a sampled Instrument in 2021 – is it really that complicated?

Its not weird that it works with plugue. Plogue is commercial software and supports many more sfz opcodes than any open source sfz player. Many commercial sfz files recommend using plugue. Its not unlikely that your commercial sfz file uses opcodes not supported in sfizz. If you want a very good pia...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

These seem to be related to "acpi" = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. I tend to think these processes should not use so much CPU, but I don't know what you can do about it.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition Released!

Its not normal to use a large amount of CPU permanently. Run the "top" command in a terminal to see what programs are using so much cpu (exit top by typing "q").

Re: Pulse Effects - a limiter for bass?

I just installed Pulse Effects to see what you are talking about. I think you could use the multiband compressor as a bass limiter. Configure the Sub Band to have a high ratio, perhaps 10, so that it become like a limiter. Set the other bands of the multiband to bypass. Put on some bass-heavy music ...

Re: Which Linux Distro should i choose for Music production 2021

AVL-MXE is not exactly a one-man show, its is based on MXE Linux and uses other repositories like kxstudio. Also, the maintainer has a 10 year record of updating AVLinux, though of course I can't predict the future.

Have you followed the steps in the AVL-MXE manual for "Running Windows Audio Software", page 52? Manual available here: http://www.bandshed.net/avlinux/

Re: New Convolver

I notice this is based on HiFi-LoFi FFTConvolver which is also used in KlangFalter, also from HiFi-LoFi. So it would seem to be mainly be a repackaging of KlangFalter.
