Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Below is the reply I got from alsa-devel list. I myself have been unable run a full test due to my lack of linux knowledge. Yesterday, I was unsuccessful at getting a guitar signal. I'm also quite concerned about how I'm going to get the phantom power in this card turned on in linux (there is no har...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
The alsa-developers email list was helpful. Somebody there told me most of the card's features works (he listed which ones). The ones that didn't work were not important ones. I did a netboot install of ubuntu lucid and put XFCE on top of it. Then KXStudio. When I booted from realtime kernel, I got ...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Thanks I just posted there and on the alsa-users email list, I'm still not sure whether my card is fully supported with ALSA, so I'm hoping someone can tell me.

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Again, just to detail my experience here for those who may be able to learn from it: I found faster support from an IRC channel: #kxstudio. And another was suggested that I haven't yet logged into: #opensourcemusicians. Also a netboot iso install was suggested, so when the kxstudio site is back up (...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Getting help from this forum is turning out to be not so fast. The whole linux audio project has been somewhat of a disaster for me. Is there an IRC channel where I might be able to chat with people who would point me in the right direction? cheers.

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
AV Linux doesn't seem to have a 64-bit version. I have a 64-bit PC, and wouldn't I be able to take more advantage of its architecture if I installed a 64-bit distro?

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Ok, I figured out the low latency kernel thing. I dual-boot with Win7. I get a Grub (?? with a debian logo for some reason) screen that gives me xubuntu, win7, and "previous linux versions" option. This must be because the low-latency kernel installed is older than the generic one. So when...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
I had to boot with a LiveCD and change the /etc/group file to have [username] at the end of the line that starts with "admin" (just for those who may need this information). I don't exactly know what other groups I was originally a part of but I added some that I found on the internet. I t...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Thanks for the clarification on that. Cadence is useful. I noticed that I was not in the audio group. I entered these two commands below and either one of them (don't know which) did the job of adding me to the audio group (so now, there is a green check in Cadence for that item). sudo usermod -G au...

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
When I can get my system set up, I'm going to produce a video of my specs and how I got things working. Then I'll share it with you and if you think it's helpful, we can post it in your youtube account.
For anyone following this, just posted a new thread to try to get help setting up my system.

Help setting up KXStudio
Hello, I've been trying to switch to Linux for home recording. I can't stand Windows and use Linux for all my other needs, but the switch has been slow for audio. First, it took a while to get a card that works. And now, finally having settled on the Xubuntu 11.04 + KXStudio option, I don't know wha...

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
'kxstudio-default-settings' apparently is already installed with whatever else I installed. I would like to contribute to the documentation, but I have little knowledge about linux audio. My thought is that if I could get my system running neatly, I'm going to detail what I did and post it around fo...

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
So I'm done with the installation, which consisted of this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kxstudio-team/kxstudio sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kxstudio-repos sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install kxstudio-desktop-xfce sudo apt-get install kxstudio-meta-all sudo ...

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
Thanks! After few months of playing around with some live CDs (e.g., puredyne, which was nice) and finally finding a PCI card that was recognized (ESI Maya44), I decided today to install a clean xubuntu natty and KXStudio. I appreciate the work you put into it (hopefully, everything will work well a...

Is there a particular advantage to using KXStudio with KDE?
