Re: Ultralite AVB

Yeah it seems like this approach was a dud. I've got another theory I'm investigating but nothing concrete yet.

Re: Ultralite AVB

1. One new thought on the differences: how is your motu 828es configured? In my case I have: - 6 "Computer to MOTU" channels ("From USB"). - 14 "Motu to Computer" USB channels. Actually, here's a thought – in the device web interface what do you have your "Host bu...

Re: Ultralite AVB

ok, but before we give it up entirely, just let me ask a few pendantic questions (as a novice!!), just to be sure: 1. Is the dmesg about the "clock source 1 is not valid, cannot use" at all related to the drifting? Not from what I can tell. That also shows up on my system and I don't have...

Re: Ultralite AVB

@wrl: any ideas what may be going wrong at my end? Any ideas what may be different at your end? Man, this sucks. I'm observing the same things you are about the duplicate endpoints and clock source: [ 1.177019] usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd [ 1.324255] usb 3-2: config 1...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Alright, sounds good. Yeah, I wouldn't want you to be in a situation where you had upgraded to a new firmware in anticipation of this patch, found it didn't work, and then couldn't downgrade. If you're able to downgrade then I think you're in the clear.

Re: Ultralite AVB

I am running firmware 1.3.4+558 on my device (Utralite AVB non-ESS) right now.. Do I need to upgrade to newer firmware to get the usb protocol up to date ?? I will try to get my system running with the new kernel as soon as I applied the patch and built it successfully /Anders If that's still befor...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Thanks @wrl for all your work on this. I'd be happy to give some feedback on my Ultralite AVB with new ESS chip. I applied your patch to 5.11rc1 and everything was fine with the building. My problem now is unrelated to the audio stack, but I'll ask for help here anyway: the 5.11 doesn't boot on my ...

Re: Ultralite AVB

ok. So here's my current status: 1. I switched to linux-next (tag=next-20201223) 2. I first did not apply any patch, just to see the base behaviour -> drifting occurs as expected. ("Drifting occurs" _also_ means that the heard audio becomes somewhat distorted as time goes. Regarding how l...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Also – tried out jack_bufsize with the URB fast completion patch. Shrinking the buffer (e.g. 1024 -> 128) results in a brief dropout (about ~1sec) while the device reconfigures, but then it comes back online without any channel drift issues. Enlarging the buffer (128 -> 1024 or whatever) happens on...

Re: Ultralite AVB

No i'm absolutely tired. i think in xhci_urb_enqueue int lock_acquired = spin_trylock_irqsave(&xhci_lock, flags); ... if (lock_aquired) spin_unlock_irqrestore(&xhci_lock, flags); should do the trick. No extra USB_HOST_LOCK_IS_ACQUIRED flag needed. This seems dodgy to me. If the lock needs t...

Re: Ultralite AVB

[....] my other audio interface (babyface pro) [...]. How do you like the Motu device (828es you said?) vs the Babyface Ppro? I'm trying to decide between the two. TBH, I'm kinda leaning toward the Babyface Pro FS. If the Ultralite AVB or 624 AVB drivers were stable I'd go with them. But having the...

You're absolutely right, I somehow completely blanked on that.
