Re: Edirol UA-4FX on ubuntu 10.04

I have a Edirol UA-4FX as well and have been using it for a couple of years on Linux. It took me forever to figure out what was causing the popping/crackling that I started experiencing around Ubuntu 8 or 9. For me it was a bug or glitch caused by the Radeon drivers when Kernel Mode Setting(KMS) is ...

Re: Linux for live performance

I don't use hydrogen, but another sample trigger program called Specimen for sound fx. I also use AMSynth and VMPK. I use the laptop keyboard to trigger fx, and an external M-Audio Ozone to control the synth and output all the audio through jack.

Ardour: JACK has either been shutdown or it disconnected ...

I am getting strange Jack disconnects with Ardour and Mixbus. Things load up, and connect to my Jack server fine, I can play or record for a minute then it bombs with an error: "JACK has either been shutdown or it disconnected Ardour because Ardour was not fast enough. Try to restart JACK, reco...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

For those interested, the issue is only with radeon KMS enabled. I filed a bug with Alsa: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa- ... hp?id=5408

New Album made with Linux

Hey all, My band, Chosen Robot, has released our first full length album, Terrorvision. It is some funkadelic rock n roll type stuff with super heroes flying around. I play the the keyboards(and guitar) in the band and produced the samples and synth sounds on a 64 studio laptop running AMSynth and S...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

So, running 2.6.39 with threadirqs and rtirq helps, but there was still some minor crackling. This page was helpful in getting my jackd priority just right: http://subversion.ffado.org/wiki/IrqPriorities That kernel with threadirqs and radeon.modeset=0 to turn on KMS and I and getting NO crackling. ...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

I just grabbed 2.6.39-rc4 from the Ubuntu mainline repo to try out the "threadirqs" boot option with rtirq. My usb controllers are of type: USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) My USB device: ID 0582:00a3 Roland Corp. EDIROL UA-4FX Not sure wha...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

The only thing that seemed to help was to turn off KMS in my grub boot options. I have a Radeon x1600 and have always had video issues, so I would think this a likely culprit. My guess is it is prioritizing some video process higher than the USB ports. Looking at the IRQs on my machine the video car...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

Okay, now its worse on Ubuntu Studio Natty, because the issue happens on Ardour too.

Scenario:
Jack running on my USB audio interface, guitarix running and all sounds great!
Open ardour, and pops and crackles start, and its not even recording! Close ardour and the issue goes away. :( WTF

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

Tried openSuse 11.4, Fedora 14 and Arch. All of them get the crackling noise. I tried a DIFFERENT usb audio interface, a M-Audio Ozone, and I get the crackling noise. I installed KXStudio 10.04.3 and it doesn't get the noise. So i have narrowed it down to having to do with USB Audio interfaces throu...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

I am not getting that sample rate attribute message in AVLinux. I am pretty sure that has something to do with it, because I have disabled or uninstalled everything else that could be causing it. Maybe my issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/644708?comments=all Going to ...

Re: Crackling noise on USB interface in certain apps

Switched to LXDE in Fedora, still crackling. Started jack in 16bit(-S), and still crackling. It is not Renoise, because this same setup does not crackle in AVLinux. I do get this warning when I plug my USB device in, I'll check if this happens in AVLInux. Could this be causin it? [ 92.973230] ALSA s...
