Re: what is 64bit processor?

What is better for a studio, 32 or 64 bits? What does the experts say? I would assume that if you're doing simple stuff like MIDI sequencing, then it doesn't matter. You won't notice a difference in performance. You might see the difference more in something like Ardour if you're processing a lot o...

Re: Do you listen to your own music?

I still listen to my music from time to time. Hey, if you're not a fan of your own music, then why even compose? Of course, one can always nitpick one's own compositions once they're done, but one always to be his/her own worst criitic. :P That said, there's always room for improvement in supposedly...

I suspect that the original poster's intention was more about spamming than actually finding a solution to a problem. Check out the signature. As for the question, that could have been grabbed from any other forum post. Wow, they're getting sneakier: posting the question nov 30th, then adding the s...

Re: UbuntuStudio (Karmic 9.10) Nightmare

You just never know with Ubuntu. Karmic works beautifully on my HP G60, where 9.04 and earlier release were a freaking horror show. I took the plunge with Karmic on that machine because I figured I had little to lose, and I'm glad I did it. Wireless works, Pulseaudio gracefully gets out of the way ...

Re: Episode #28

Episode 28 of OSMP was by far the best one yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamics of the show with those that called in. Great topics and it was lots of fun to listen to. Sure seemed like it was fun participating for those who did! Great job! 8)

Re: UbuntuStudio (Karmic 9.10) Nightmare

Don't get me wrong. 9.04 was a wizard, I really liked it. :D It's the denial that gets to me. Anywho yes strange problems indeed. It would seem my card is a little too awkward even for the more lengthy workarounds :| Ah well Sigh.... BTW, have you tried installing using the Alternate Installation I...

Re: Keyboard MIDI Controller

once installed, my MIDISport USB 2x2 interface worked without issue. Some devices, such as the MidiSport 2x2 Anniversary Edition and the Keystation 49e, don't require this package though. You are correct, and I think they mention that on the page for the MidiSport firmware. However, the earlier ver...

Re: Keyboard MIDI Controller

Old question, sorry to be bumping, but here's what I know: http://usb-midi-fw.sourceforge.net/ has the firmware loader to get the Oxygen 49 (and other midiman-based controllers) working on Linux. I just haven't been able to figure out how to get the more advanced controls working. Basically, it loa...

Re: GnewSense

I tried out gNewSense when it was based on Ubuntu 6.06 (I think it was that version). It was pretty nice, but still very rough around the edges at the time. The good thing about this is that it seems to have sparked a similar spin-off from Canonical itself called Gobuntu. I haven't tried gNewSense l...

Chad Wollenberg from the Linux Basement podcast has some FOSS-oriented songs that he's written. He usually tags the end of his episodes with them.

Re: Tiny PC project

SSD drives for me aren't a concern anyway. What I want to do with the PC doesn't need intensive I/O. Since all I want to do is to use softsynths and sequencers, and only marginally use samplers (I don't really have the need for sampling, actually, it's just an added plus I'd like to have), that's w...

Re: Tiny PC project

I figure if it's for MIDI control and you're using some software synths, you should do just fine with the Atom CPU. Not sure if soft synths under GNU/Linux take advantage of the Hyperthreading found in the Atom, but consider this: if the software synths can run decently under a Pentium 4 CPU with H...
