Re: Random Dropouts without Xruns?

It looks like the problem is the mixer. We tried a different one and didn't have the dropous. For the sake of being thorough we tried the original mixer again and we got dropouts again. So, I guess my system tuning skills hold true again! So, now I've got a bid in on an maudio octane to mate ...

Random Dropouts without Xruns?

Hey all. Long time. I've been recording the band and I'm getting weird random dropouts on the system. I'm hoping someone might have some ideas on where I should look next. The recording rig is a Core2Duo with 4 Gig of ram. A Delta1010 (the one with the breakout box) and an old EV BK-142 mixer to get...

Re: Traverso DAW

Hey funkmuscle, Are you talking about the routing dialog from the second screenshot? If that's the what you mean then I think it falls under the "things not being 100% yet". I can't seem to get things to work either and I'm pretty sure I'm using a logical methodology (that made me sound sm...

Re: will we lose our apps to Mac and Windows eventually??

Man, I disappear for a while and boy things get heated! :) Okay, I've read through this whole thing and I just want to give my $.02. To start: Jack or Ardour as the heart of Linux Audio. Just agree to disagree. It's turning into a pissing contest and no one wins those. I get what Louigi was trying t...

Re: Traverso DAW

It's been a while and I just wanted to update this thread as to things that are going on with Traverso. The soft select is still there and still awesome and fast (eg: hover the mouse over a track tap F5 and the effects dialog pops up). The addition of more routing options is the big new here. Routin...

Re: Crossing the Arch

sudo yaourt -S traverso-git looking at your comand again, you don't need sudo nor the -S option.....try simple "yaourt traverso-git" as user, it works For some reason if I don't use sudo with a "GIT" repo I get an error. I've tried it without sudo, but it says I don't have the r...

Re: Crossing the Arch

@Capoeira I'm not a hacker at all, though that may be a loaded statement. I like to "play", but I'm not a sensible sweater wearing guy with all the answers. I personally don't use the Arch Audio repos at all. I just get everything from the AUR, some stuff is newer there. Have you se...

Re: Crossing the Arch

ArchBang is Alpha, but like Chakra Aplha the only things that are Alpha are their tools. So for ArchBang the only Alpha stuff should be their installer, hardware detection, etc. If the system installs OK on your system it should just be a matter of........ sudo pacman -Syu and the system is up to da...

Re: best distro for pro studio?

It looks like Arch is taking over! Come to the blue triangular shaped side Luke!

Seriously, I haven't had any more headaches with Arch than I have with any other distro. Not to be bold, but I'd say I've had less. Broadcom wireless is stupid easy in Arch. That won it a lot of points in my book.

Re: Crossing the Arch

1) so in Arch I don't need a special RT-Kernel? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ProAudio Not necessarily it seems. I can run JACK with the normal kernel and my default sound card pretty well. The Latency is pretty high, but I only do that with I'm mastering and just need to hook up some plugins...

Re: best distro for pro studio?

That Phoronix shootout was interesting thanks for posting that! :) I've never claimed Arch to be the fastest. I think Distros like Arch or Debian have a perceived quickness because of how quickly they open programs. Then again most people talking about how fast their distro is are using something li...

Re: best distro for pro studio?

I'm sorry, but if you're implying that Arch is unstable then you might be misinformed. No, I meant, that i don't want to try out all the distros, I want a OS that works, only this. ---- And windows-like for me is: bluescreens, frozen system, viruses, strange behavier off all kind, etc.. I don't kno...

Re: best distro for pro studio?

I am not reading here in this topic, but i wanted to coment this: The reason I see Arch as being "the best" choice for an audio setup comes down to it being what you make it. I only have Alsa and JACK installed. No OSS, Pulse audio etc. Just the basics and everything works great. I instal...

Cool,

I just upgraded from the Arch AUR. I haven't used Guitarix yet, I'll make up an excuse to try it out this week. :D
