AV Linux 4.1 now supports Wi-Fi adaptors which use the zd1211rw module.

Have you downloaded and studied the manual for your ASUS motherboard? (Some 'boards have their design quirks.) You mentioned removing the CMOS battery. Did you clear the CMOS by shorting out its jumper as well? Are you overclocking your machine? Have you tried resetting the BIOS to its default value...
