Re: Rather beginning level questions...

Hi John, Let us know how you get on with the Mackie. As to your question about whether there is a better way to go, I would say only if you wanted a better mixer and you'd probably have to spend a fair amount more to get a significantly better on. In that case you could get the mixer of your choice ...

Re: Rather beginning level questions...

Hi John, The setup you propose (with a Mackie mixer) is listed as supported under ffado (see http://www.ffado.org). I would try to find someone who is using this setup and see what they use for hardware and what their experience has been. You might join the linux audio users mailing list - I'm sure ...

Re: Newbie: Audio Capture with Delta M1010LT / JACK

Hi Benjamin, There are a couple things that could be going on. First of all, do I understand that you are plugging the guitar directly into the soundcard? I may be misunderstanding what you are doing, but the soundcard wants to see a line-level signal. To get you guitar up to this level you can: 1. ...

Re: Hydrogen, Ardour, and plugins

you are also more demanding on disk throughput. Don't neglect this aspect. Hi Thorgal, Any thoughts on disk drive options for laptops? My system disk is 5400 rpm. My interface will eventually be on the firewire port. Would a high-speed (7200rpm?) USB disk be a good investment? ..or more RAM...or bo...

Re: Hydrogen, Ardour, and plugins

SR, Thanks I actually found that in my googling yesterday. I didn't have an entry for snd-hda-intel. I added this line to the file that loads the modules (I forget the name in Ubuntu): options snd-hda-intel model=ref position_fix=1 enable=1 index=0 I did some recording with plug-ins running i...

Re: Hydrogen, Ardour, and plugins

Ooh, I like that hack. :D

Yes, I'm definitely running Jack in realtime mode and I'm using 2.6.24.22-rt kernel. I'm saving up for an Echo or Focusrite firewire interface, so I'm trying to get by on the cheap for now. I'll try your suggestion for importing the WAV files, though. Thanks,

Hydrogen, Ardour, and plugins

Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me on this: I've running a Fujitsu Amilo Pro V3505 notebook which is fairly decent spec, although only 500 some odd MB of RAM. OS is Ubuntu Hardy. I have Jack set up so I can use the HDA Intel soundcard to record 16 bit audio at 48,000 with no xruns (final...

Re: organ sounds

This might be worth checking out...

http://horgand.berlios.de/

I used it to add some organ to a test track I did in Ardour, but I'm a MIDIot and barely knew what I was doing. It did seem to contains some good sounds, though.

Greeting from the UK

Hello from a transplanted yank in the UK... I got into Linux after my 3 month old Windows laptop fatally crashed, and I've never looked back. I use Ardour, Hydrogen, and lately have been attempting to use Jamin. I play in a funk/soul band and I'm trying to master some live recordings without much su...
