Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

ah well that explains it lol I tried grabbing the kernel26-ice package from AUR last night as well, but there's a dependency that needs to be updated by the packager that prevents that from compiling too. Guess I'm in idle for a bit hehe. thanks for the heads up on this, I'll give it another go soon...

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Sorry to bring such an old thread back to life.. and not be involved with this thread until now. Just recovered from a catastrophic system failure (involved a cup of water and a sneaky 3 year old)... anyways, I got arch installed however when I try to get over to www.archaudio.org, the site never re...

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

I looked at A/V Linux and it looked good, but ideally I want to stick with a 64 bit userland when and where ever possible. I mean, I paid for the processing power for this, I might as well try to get my moneys worth lol  Maybe I'll repartition my drive in half, throw a production ready distro ...

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Sigh... Well I lost patience trying to get it up and running so for now, I went back to 64Studio. I just couldn't get the rt kernel installed and have my nvidia play nice. I don't think I have the time to fiddle with my install.. its a production environment for my web dev stuff and my daily compute...

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Thanks for the reply. I am really strongly suspecting that I screwed something up somewhere along the way with configuring my arch install. Every time I try to do anything with a pkgbuild (btw thanks for the yaourt suggestion, that thing seriously rocks), the same dependency is missing. Something th...

Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Hey gang. So recently I took the dive and installed Arch (64 bit) with a lovely little Fluxbox environment. I got everything going just fine, and now it's time for me to start building in the rt kernel and all the goodies that go along with it. This is where my n00bness to Arch comes in.... First of...

Re: FLAC support for LMMS - Arch Linux

hmmm.. This might sound kinda goofy, but try to run LMMS as root and try to open a flac. Wondering if theres a group permission for your user account regarding flac or other media formats. If the same result happens and it crashes regardless of being in root, next thing I would suggest is open it up...

Re: FLAC support for LMMS - Arch Linux

Are you calling LMMS from command line? Any specific error messages when it fails to open the flac file?

Re: Some basics for recording with a mixer?

I usually run a streight channel for everything. But it's really just what ever you think sounds the best. I think it helps to listen to a mix that you like from a band that you like and try to re-create that same mix on your own equipment for vocals or whatever. And then it just helps you get an i...

Some basics for recording with a mixer?

I got a dinky Behringer 10 channel mixer and at the moment, it's getting used for mic'ing my guitar amp and DI for vocals. When I record anything, I set the active mixer channel (including the master channel) sliders right to the 0db point for volume, set all inactive channels to no volume. Not sure...

Re: How many Linux musicians are JUST guitarist??

hard rock/metal guitarist here :) But the instrument came first before my love of computers did. 1986 for guitar (9 years old at that point) then 1993 for the first home computer (for me to break repeatedly). Wasn't until 2005 that I actually took a stab at home recording by transferring a 4track ta...

Re: how to record electric guitar?

I've been wondering the same thing in terms of recording a guitar. I'm going to be doing both a 6 string and a bass so I wonder if the same plugins can be used or if there's other plugins for bass that make a difference. By the way, that article you linked to is awesome. Great information in there f...

Excellent! I think that right there is going to help me really unlock what I'm doing. If I can be sure of what's routing where, then troubleshooting gets much easier to manage. Thank you very much :D

Re: HI from York, UK.

I play guitar, bass and keyboards to varying levels of incompetence[/url] Welcome to the forum. Don't feel bad, I lurked for a long time, joined last year and didn't even make my first post until this year. But then again, us musicians are all about being on time and always having money too l...

Re: Ardour noob question

Thanks :) I will try that when I get home tonight. I like the idea of ardour doing some of the heavy lifting until I get more accustomed to how things work. Do the captures match the outputs from the sound card? What I mean is, when I look at my sound card in the envy24control gui and it lists a ton...
