Re: Do you use a sound server? If so, which one? Several?

I use my mainboard soundcard with pure ALSA and dmixer for consumer stuff like videos, games and music player and a PCI card with JACK for recording, mixing and midi.

Re: Beat making applications for Linux.

Imagine a combination between seq24 and Hydrogen I believe that is exactly what patroneo was intended to be... have you looked at it? its a pretty new app, have you looked at it? https://github.com/diovudau/patroneo 1.0 is not yet released. But please give it a try. The documentation tells you how ...

Re: Windows VST vs Native Linux plugins in Carla

Well, the windows VSTs are windows programs and the native ones are Linux programs. They only run on their own operating system. This is the the mindset one must have to understand the next statement: WINE exists and it creates a micro-environment for windows programs to run, while actually being in...

Re: Suggestion for a good set of sounds for beginners

Software. I appreciate the answers so far. But you can be more specific! Imagine this scenario: You have a workshop or a class, a few hours only. You provide them with ready to use Linux Audio computers and you can teach them about how to set a note in Ardour or how to load a plugin in Carla. But yo...

Suggestion for a good set of sounds for beginners

What would be your suggestion for sounds for a beginner? The scenario is to learn a sequencer by making music, so it would be best to get a good matching collections of sounds and instruments?

I'm thinking synthesizer sound for melody, chords and bass as well as drums.

Re: Donations welcome!

Don't worry, we'll not 'sell out' and put obnoxious banners anywhere or sharing personal information, but of course if any of them agree to sponsor we'll find a reasonable way to give them credit. Even if there are banners, we are a tech community: I imagine most if not all use adblockers anyway. M...

Re: AVLinux 2018 and UEFI

I configured my version of AV Linux with some installs and deinstalls and then installed it to an USB stick. Not a live system but a real install, so all my data and configuration is properly saved. This works fine for my own computers, however I need it to run on laptops that don't have any legacy...

UEFI exclusive would be good enough for me. It is always the same (Windows) Laptop that I need to run it on.

Re: AV Linux 2018.4.12 Released!

Thank you for the work and the release!

After all these years I gave AVLinux a try and I'm currently installing and configuring my own system and will install it on around 15 laptops used in my school and classes for audio production.
