Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

certainly not by shaming, insulting, or hard-selling people who aren't using Linux That indeed would make no sense - though I'm not sure that happens a lot? I think there are a lot of people who could benefit from free software that aren't, either because (1) they don't know about it, (2) it isn't ...

Microphone recommendations for speech

I'm on the market for a nice microphone for speech - think webcast/podcast material, but I want it to sound professional. I already have a UA-25EX interface, so either an XLR or a USB mic would work. Budget is, say, up to EUR 100 - though I'd be interested to learn what the quality differences are b...

Re: ALSA: I need a proper example of low-latency loop for DSP

is able to recover properly from conditions where the AUDIO IN + DSP CALCULATIONS + AUDIO OUT pass couldn't be performed in time for any reason (this is the reliability test my code fails). This is an interesting goal, but as far as I know this is basically research territory. I don't think I know ...

Re: DiscoDSP's cloud

Is that even legal to charge again for something you have already paid for? I'd say so: they fulfilled their end of the deal when you downloaded the product the first time. They're under no obligation to keep alive a service for you to download it *again*. Given they don't have an obligation to pro...

Re: Quick(?) Linux DAW Bloatware Removal (MX Linux, AntiX, Debian, Ubuntu)

Many or most or perhaps ALL of these items can be safely(?, we hope) purged (completely removed) from a default MX LINUX 18.x fresh install. At least on Debian, the installer installs the base image, and then there is a separate step that allows you to install additional 'tasksel' bundles. The defa...

Re: Changing SF to Pizz Stac or Sus

with Rosegarden, I have a string part which wants to go from sus to pizz for example - and I put that in as a notation change but would love to link it to a patch change as well. Could that be done in Rosegarden with the features described at http://rosegarden.sourceforge.net/tutorial/en/chapter-7....

Cheap tablet/ereader for sheet music

I'm considering getting a cheap tablet/ereader for sheet music - that could potentially be more convenient than lugging around folders of paper. This is just a bit of fun, so I'm looking to spend up to 100 bucks on it. Second-hand/refurbished is fine. Ideally a big display, though it doesn't need to...

Re: Do you want more people to use Linux for music?

are you sure? Have you thought it through? There are different levels of experience and ability. Yes, I would like more people to use Linux for music. I don't care about levels of experience nor ability. I do care about mindset: I'm not too interested in 'consumer mindset' users, but would love to ...

Re: Analysis: drifting hardware latency leads to XRun

I've been able to solve the drifting problem with the Audiofire. Nice! I had previously been able to get the 1394 light on when starting ffado-dbus-server using sudo, that light would remain on even after I had quit the ffado-dbus-server, which I believe to be false. Aahh tricky I'm grateful to be ...

Yeah, I figured as much but it wasn't completely clear and it didn't seem like a particularly good joke so I assumed you wouldn't mind if I removed the post ;).

Re: Gah....

What the idiots have done is beyond belief. (...) I wouldn't be surprised if falktx didn't take time out in frustration. A common reason for open source maintainers to burn out is when users act entitled and even call them names in public - like you just did. Please don't, nobody deserves that. By ...

Re: Anyone able to build Algoscore recently?

I did some more digging. Seems AlgoScore at some point lived at sourceforge, then moved to Gna. Gna is discontinued, but I was able to recover some slightly newer sources and history from the dump at https://archive.org/details/Gna_code_hosting. Converted them to git and shared them at https://githu...

Re: Freeware alternative for SynthEdit?

I guess it is interesting to answer the question why pd-extended got abandoned. Was it because there was no interest anymore since people just left? I almost can't imagine it. I don't know either but Pd is a small project by one man I think and Pd-extended might have been developed and maintained b...

Re: Freeware alternative for SynthEdit?

Pd Vanilla was nowhere near as popular as Pd-extended. Back in the day they didn't bother to make a patch and all the extensions it needs in one, because all the extensions were already in Pd-extendend. This is of course true. I guess it is interesting to answer the question why pd-extended got aba...
