Re: planet.linuxaudio mention in "Linux Music News"?

Why is http://planet.linuxaudio.org/ (why not http s ?) not listed in the category Linux Music News mentioned? I think that's a great idea. I'll add it. why not http s ? https://planet.linuxaudio.org does exist, but it suffers from 'mixed (insecure) display content' problems. Given this problem, do...

Re: Post Clarification Request

Could some knowledgeable people weigh in on what should and should not be posted to "Linux Music News - Discuss anything new and newsworthy!"? It appears that there are some unwritten/understood rules regarding what should or should not be posted there. For example, I get the idea that co...

Re: Cut Through Recordings Plug-ins available in LV2 Format

I'd say either 'Linux Music News', 'Plugins, Effects and Instruments' or 'Marketplace' are good places for this topic.

Perhaps we should get rid of 'Linux Music News' - anything posted there probably has a more accurate subforum available.

Moving this one to 'Plugins, Effects and Instruments'

Re: The Everything Songwriting Book: Can Lyrics Be Skipped?

some of what you learn about vocals could be applied to instrumental music as well. The "hole" that is left by not having vocals is often filled with a lead synth, guitar or other instrument of a similar frequency range as the human voice. I tend to agree: I'm not familiar with this parti...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

So if you want to avoid a lawsuit then simply shut down the Attachments function or at least limit it within these regulations. All of this is not about attachments, it is about the text in the posts itself. It mainly is a choice which direction a website wants to go. Does it want to host copyright...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

This is not ontopic or relevant. These rules are more then hundred years old. Nothing new there. This has nothing to do with new EU laws were this topic is about. Everybody using bittorrent or whatever downloading system before that knew that was infringement of copyrights and everybody knew the bi...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

If you put something (sound, visual) on youtube were you leave out information from title and description youtube either does not recognize it. Youtube only recognizes something if it is in the text. Did you know that? This is obviously false: people complain all the time that their video's (someti...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

And for a small website with some minor uploads, like this forum. Can easily be done manually. Prevention is the job, not to automate it. I even wonder if a forum like this can be held responsible as the music is not hosted here. Oh, I wasn't talking about music, but about the posts themselv...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

Did you think mr. Youtube himself did all the rights claims sometimes within a minute himself manually? A 100 hours video upload per minute! That is clearly database automated. Again, I totally agree the big platforms such as YouTube will have no problem implementing these new rules. It is the comp...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

Platforms have to prevent copyright infringing material to be uploaded That's how it should be. I disagree. If we took that rule to its extreme, forums like this one could not exist, because I cannot check each post for possible copyright infringements before making it available. Actually, I'm not ...

That is currently the case, under the old laws. With the new laws, that will be introduced to implement the new directives, it may no longer be.

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

As long as you own the rights of your work you still can do whatever you want with it. As a content creator, indeed the short-term impact is low. And i can not reject copyrights in general as i would not like it either if my work would be abused for commercial goals without respecting my rights. In...

Idunno, all the bickering about "latté sipping Cali trustfund hipsters" seemed a bit sour. Perhaps it wasn't meant as such.
