Colleges That Record Music With Linux?
So I've been trying to figure out what college I want to go to study music. I'm trying to find a school that's hip and postmodern. A school that might host a string quartet, an electronic music outfit, a hip hop group, and a Brazilian orchestra all in the same event; no explanations, no apologies. T...

Re: Dyne:bolic Goes Dormant
I just loaded it onto a cd. I love the look of it, and I love the simplicity of the design. After my hair-pulling experience with Ubuntu Studio, dyne:bolic sounds really refreshing to me... I just wish I could get the mouse to work! I'm trying to run it on an Intel-based MacBook. I try to move eithe...

iPod alternatives? Neuros?
I'm sick of iPods. I'm especially sick of whatever weird thing Jobs built in to make it so difficult for (non-iTunes) software to access these devices. It occus to me, why haven't I heard of portable media players designed to run open source operating systems? I looked it up online, and so far I've ...

Does this have to do with why sound isn't coming through my headphones? Ubuntu doesn't recognize the h...

Re: Downloading Ardour onto Mepis?
Ahhh it's not stable yet. That makes sense.
I'm downloading A/V Linux now. Cross your fingers.
Ubuntu Studio looks so pretty, but seems rather impractical.
Thanks for the welcome! I may be spending many hours here.

Downloading Ardour onto Mepis?
I'm using Mepis, a Debian-based distro, and I can't find Ardour in the package manager. I'm checking all the stable repositories (Mepis, Debian, and Debian-multimedia), but nothing's coming up. I was sure that Ardour was available for Debian. Why isn't it turning up? I'd sooner headbutt a reel-to-re...
