Re: Multiple QWERTY MIDI keyboards on one machine

But as I understand your method means to use usual non-notebook keyboards and even several. So you can for example assign a different soft-synth plugin to each keyboard. That is definitely the idea. It works also with my laptop's keyboard, and can also use the touchpad as an xy controller for adjus...

Re: How to reach public?

The definition of "live" music has been shifting over the decades. EDM shows tend to do very well these days. I have no information about how to get in on that as a maker, but people flock to them by the thousands. (Some of those thousands are surely burned-out former nurses who developed ...

Re: RaySession v0.12.0

After it I can't look at Carla without pain, but, unfortunately, RaySession does not act as a plugin host. Have you tried using Carla inside RaySession sessions? That's how I bring in plugins. I think you can also use Carla inside a Carla session, by my tender young brain can't handle that.* *"...

Re: RaySession v0.12.0

That said, I saw that a2j does not rename ports exactly with the pattern of the ALSA port name, especially with some special characters. I was hanging on to an old assumption with that, and had no clue. Thank you. The GUI is not very resource-intensive, but of course, when you don't need it, it is ...

Multiple QWERTY MIDI keyboards on one machine

I made a thing that's geared towards playing live music without a screen, and am trying to find out if there's enough interest to clean it up and share it. It's a Pure Data patch that can use multiple qwerty keyboards at the same time as separate MIDI keyboards, with three octaves each. It lets me c...

Re: RaySession v0.12.0

Thanks Transit_of_lo, nice to hear. Especially because ray_control was quite long and not very fun to develop (In fact, what was long was not to code ray_control, but make the daemon works correctly with), and I have very few feedback on it. So nice to hear that you think it is reliable ;). I docum...

Re: RaySession v0.12.0

Thank you for RaySession! I'm using it (and ray_control) to switch between setups without a mouse or a screen. It's easy to play a piano song and then switch to something with a semi-automated beat and one synth for each hand, for instance, and then switch over to a Luppp session that sounds complet...

Re: Carla, MIDI Control Channel and Sequencers

I don't know if this is why it was used in the video, but when I use channel filtering it's for selecting instruments by switching channels on the keyboard. That way I can load several virtual instruments and play one at a time. It can work for a sequencer as well as a keyboard. So for example, if s...

Any pics from that setup? https://i.postimg.cc/8JHdtGTr/setup1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/MMxb7HJS/setup2.jpg Hammock view of the entire setup, from above and below. There is a small audio cable to the powered speaker, and the white USB cable connects to an Android device that's being used as a MIDI ...

Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?

Any pics from that setup? I'll post the video link and some relevant screenshots here when I get it edited. This is from the backyard test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7XEy0GXHDU Edit: Only shows the keyboard part of the setup, which is a pair of qwerty keyboards, with use of the android surfa...

Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?

What LCD screen did you use? How did you power that one, etc.? I brought a 5" TFT LCD screen that can mount on the Pi or work as a stand-alone HDMI monitor. It can use micro-USB power and just gets plugged into a separate powerbank. It was there as a backup in case I couldn't get in with VNC. ...

Re: How to use vmpq with Carla/jack?

Very tangential: I started with VMPK and moved to Jack Keyboard and still love them dearly, but then got obsessed with using more than one qwerty keyboard on the same computer. So I've made a Pure Data thing that does the job, and several other jobs as it gadually bloats. I will be glad to share it ...

Re: clip-launching-a-first-glimpse-of-a-major-new-feature-for-ardour-7

I already have a hard time believing Ardour could be as awesome as it actually is. This feature is going to strain my credulity to the hemorrhaging point. What's next, a Bitcoin slot machine that pays? A cat summoner with a 50-mile range? A one-click way for estranged family members to reunite? Seri...

Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?

I took the Pi setup camping. It did just fine. There was no rain and no extreme temperatures. With a 10,000 mAh powerbank, I played for about two hours and barely dipped into its capacity. That was with several soundfonts loaded, plus Sooperlooper, plus my spawling (but not terribly processor intens...

Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?

What version of the Pi4 do you use exactly? The one in the red&white keyboard? How much RAM does your Pi4 have: 2 or 4 GB? It's a Pi 4b with 8 gb of RAM. I think the one built into a keyboard is the same board/computer with extra stuff. I did get a case for it but may end up mounting it in a pr...
