Re: RME Fireface UFX III

If the class compliant mode works well enough, shouldn't they be hassling them to release an OS agnostic version of Totalmix instead? Or at least an API to the controls? No, in order for TotalMix or any potential open source alternative to it to work, RME needs to submit their driver to the Linux k...

Re: RME Fireface UFX III

RME claims Linux support via USB 3.0 Class compliance on the Fireface UFX 3 . Of course, proprietary app TotalMix Remote is needed for sane operation of the device. But this is the first time ever "Linux" is mentioned on any RME product page? I have the UFX II. It works well in class comp...

Re: High end audio interface

I am quite sure, that RME is producing and assembling in China. Of course I do not know for sure - how could I. Its just a german dev team that is producing else where. I think RME are having a good built quality and stable drivers and software - the sound is clear and professional but if compared ...

Re: High end audio interface

I pulled the trigger on RME Fireface UFX II. GuitarGuitar had only one in stock for £1800. I know that we can't use the TouchMix app, but after playing around with on device controls I found them sufficient. I really hated the lack of on device controls on my Scarlett 8i6, one of the main reasons I ...

Re: High end audio interface

Another critical feature for linux is the ability to fully control the interface without the software. How many other brands have that? I know my Scarlett doesn't, it's just so popular that a 3rd party GUI was created for it by a member of this very forum. Actually, you can control the Scarlett usi...

Re: High end audio interface

Well, I owned several RME audio interfaces over the last 3 decades. On windows and OSX the RMe drivers are stable and fast and the total mix software is nice to have yes. Besides that, RMe has good overall product quality. Having written this, I must admit, I think RME are much too overpriced. The ...

I have Bitwig. I see from your screenshot you are trying to add a stereo source. Have you tried adding mono?
Also, are you using JACK or Pipewire?

Re: High end audio interface

There are reasons to use an RME interface other than latency. They're solid, reliable and have good quality, quiet analogue electronics. This is absolutely true. In addition, studio work often requires several channels to be available at the same time. For example, drum recordings take up more than...

Re: High end audio interface

But in this thread you've linked it says that in class compliant mode there's higher latency compared to their proprietary Windows driver. That's very disappointing. How high is "higher"? Most recent processors will run a driver sufficiently fast. Even if the latency is higher, that doesn...

Re: Focusrite Clarett/Clarett+ USB Linux support

I don't think you misunderstood something :D For now I use the 5.15.0-48-generic kernel. I had a month to test the Clarett+ (read the maximum time I had before I had to return the card to the shop). I'm looking forward though for kernel 6.1!! But for now I'm happy. The sound of the card is really g...

Re: High end audio interface

There's a thread where someone got an RME Fireface UCX II working : https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?p=139025#p139025 It has a class compliant mode, which we can thank Apple and the iPad for, rather than RME being particularly sympathetic to Linux. The Fireface UCX II has a different design...

Re: Focusrite Clarett/Clarett+ USB Linux support

Connecting the Clarett+ with a Windows box is a "solution" to get the card going. So it is a routing thing... Unless I misunderstood something, I think you have to wait for the kernel 6.1 for the Clarett+ to work with the GUI, to manage the routing? Here's my post about it in this very th...

Re: Focusrite Clarett/Clarett+ USB Linux support

Wow, that was pretty quick!  yes! Credit to Christian Colglazier for getting it done for the Clarett+ 8Pre, and that's now been submitted (& accepted) upstream. I've only guessed on the Clarett 8Pre USB; hopefully someone with one can confirm soon. Upstreamed, as in to the mainline l...

Re: Nvidia releases open source gpu kernel modules

Of course this happens right after I bought a Radeon card because I was done fighing with Nvidia drivers. Nvidia cards are overpriced anyway. I used to buy about 100 at a time for the CAD engineers I supported, and we eventually switched over to ATI/AMD. Just as good. Yeah, but Nvidia uses faster m...

Re: Which DAW?

There are only 3 choices really if you are serious about recording. Bitwig - best overall. Not open source, not free. The most polished DAW, not only on linux, it has that Jetbrains clean and modern quality feel. Most simple to use as well and packed with some powerful features that even behemoths l...
