@brummer: excellent! The new options work very nicely.

Re: new gxtuner for jack
Hi, Brummer, this is a great software tool!
I agree with Pablo, a command line size option would be really nice.
And thank you for the -i option!
best wishes, G.

I find ebumeter http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/downloads/index.html to be very useful. You'll need to download and compile the clthreads and clxclient libraries first. If you're running Debian /Testing there are packages available. A short technical paper by the developer: http://lac.l...

Re: What is . .
Now that's an interesting question, Brummer! Using signalgen, I found I could just hear 16000 Hz ( signalgen -s 48000 sine 16000 ) with my audio system running at normal listening levels. At frequencies above that I needed to increase the gain to be able to hear it. At 18000 Hz I could hear nothing ...

Re: QSynth issue...
Hi, Jon. To be honest, I've not experienced this problem, nor am I sure exactly what's happening here. It sounds as if some "note off" messages are getting lost. But, reading your post, what occurred to me is to create individual engines for each of the piano parts, each on their own midi ...

Re: Unaware of a Direction (was Live sequencing with Hydrogen)
Nice work - had this old fart tapping his foot and nodding his head :D I think vocals could be louder/stronger though: multitrack and compress the hell out of them? I'm thinking of later Sisters of Mercy here. Other random thoughts: you could go for the telephone or megaphone sound ( ok bit of a cli...

Re: Sound Cards
@Samsonite: the M-audio delta66 has digital i/o, as do all the higher models in the delta range. All of these cards use 1/4" jacks, with the exception of the delta1010LT, which appears to have a large number of rca connectors. I can only second what Autostatic said: the signal/noise ratio and t...

Re: What about an editorial?
Hi, Autostatic. Nice work - I'm looking forward to reading the finished article. I enjoyed your choice of tracks, too. Don't be too disheartened by lack of feedback - lots of people lurk and just read stuff without ever posting - look at the figures for some of the threads on this forum. I think if ...

Re: Sound Cards
Hi, Samsonite. Yes, I think which sound card you use _is_ important, although it obviously depends on what you are wanting to achieve. I use a M-audio delta44 which I am very happy with. What requirements do you have? number of ins/outs, midi, digital in/out, etc? You can check out what cards are su...

Re: A new song: "The Only Earthman In Town"
Thanks for all of your comments, people, I really appreciate them. I meant to mention - but forgot - that this piece was recorded with Ardour, the drums were done with Hydrogen, the synths with Yoshimi, and the guitar sound is courtesy of Guitarix. Some final trimming and tweaking was done with Auda...

Re: Impulse convolver/guitarix
Hermann, optimized and unoptimized svn720 with wscript modified still show identical CPU usage
Although CPU use is not a problem for me: <5% typically, up to 18% with the convolver running.
just FYI the C++ flags for the _unoptimized_ compile:

Re: Impulse convolver/guitarix
Hermann, sorry for the very late reply. My CPU is AMD sempron 2800+ With the --optimization switch all the latest svn versions now compile ok, but _no_ improvement in CPU usage at all :( measured with top and also qps I tried several different settings: tubes, effects etc. As the default compile is ...
